A SFD.
Writing this from my bedroom as I now have a working light switch and sockets (my sockets worked but the faulty one kept tripping the rest so DS3 decided to leave them all the upstairs ones turned off).
'Chimney' in DS3's room (comes from skylight and through the attic) in DS3's room is now insulated so in theory (need lots of energy) I could start painting his room.
Front room is ready for the builders to start repairing the damp proof course on Wednesday and plasterer has been booked for Friday to make good. Acrylic panels to clad the bathroom are not available until the first of June so bathroom is penciled in for the 6th.
My room and the kitchen are stacked full of stuff which I will tackle gradually but as the builders are not here tomorrow I have taken up DS1's offer to meet in the city after he finishes work and he is going to take me for a meal.
I have done loads of washing including most of the bedding (need to put clean sheets and pillowcases on my bed before I get in), all line dried but left the quilts and pillows out (nowhere to put them other than on my bed).
I was up late and up early so chilling for the rest of the evening then sleep till I wake up tomorrow.
What made me happy - work getting done. Electric light at the flick of a switch (sitting with 2 led press ons on your chest to read is not ideal, doable but not ideal).
Kind deed - letting DS3 go to beloved's (and I get to relax too). Finding twine for Mr Builder and fetching the part filled bin bag for Mrs Builder.
Frugal - buying sun cream at the end of the season when it's reduced. Obviously you need to check the dates. I bought a bottle when I needed it last year (was previously using up the ones DS2 had appropriated and hidden in his drawers - found them after he had moved out). At the end of the season I bought a family pack of 4 mixed factors cheaply. Still have one mostly full (factor 30) and a bit of factor 15. Use it as a general moisturiser as well - smells like holidays and sunshine and cheers me up.
Edit sorry, bought 4 pack two years ago so it has done last year and this.My mission in life is not only to survive, but to thrive and to do so with some Passion, some Compassion, some Humour and some Style.NST SEP No 1 No Debt No mortgage0 -
Evening all,
I really can't stop spending so have vowed to leave my purse at home from now on. Needed petrol but also got lunch from McDonald's, that's twice in three days!!! BThe rest of the week is designated spend free.
I have been tutoring tonight so earnt some extra money but can't pay it off my debt until Wednesday when I get paid from teaching and then I can do a swap for the cash in my wallet.
Tomorrow I'm going to sit and do my budgets. It'll be super tight next month as I have to pay my exit fees to FU but am on a cheaper tariff with a new suppliers so will get that back in 4 months by having a lower direct debit.
Off to bed but happy world turtle day mothernerdLBM = 07/09/13 Debt = £13339 (100% cleared)

Hello!
lost track of my SFDs but don't think it's going too bad. Will be another one today. Got a really sore lower back and might have to give the gym another miss, but will see how it is in a couple of hours.
My list for the weekend when DH is away is just getting longer and longer (hedge, grass, bathroom seal, make soup etc etc). Might have to start doing some of it during this week.
Just had a message from NinjaSavingKat and she might join us in our moneysaving adventure again next month as a contender. Gosh, getting a bit nervous now running the month when the great leadersits in the audience.

Good afternoon Turtles!
I hear there’s a Mutant Teenage Ninja Turtles 2 movie coming out. I didn’t even know there was 1!
What has made me happy?
Meal prepping. Not having to worry about breakfast, lunch or dinner.
One thing I done for someone else?
I made my GF a lovely healthy dinner last night and then even gave her a back massage as her back was sore. Lots of brownie points.
Frugal tip?
My first point ^^^. Preparing in advance saves impulse buys.
Have a wonderful day people.0 -

Another one who is glad to have kat joining us -hope she's not in debt!!!
Survived work; another NSD; off to land of nod.NST March lion #8; NSD ; MFW9/3/23 Whoop Whoop!!!0 -
But will Kat do away with the naughty step, claiming we are all getting too complacent. I have seen some recent posts by a Newly Wed Savings Ninja and wondered?
Today has been a game of two halves (or possibly 3 thirds?).
No builders so tackled a number of little jobs as well as finishing the washing. Two quilts and 8 pillows are staying outside (I have 4 on my bed) as I can't think where to put them (and still be able to get into my bed.
Did some admin/ phone calls - trying to tick things off so that paperwork can be discarded. First phone call pleasant and easily resolved. Second phone call not so good. Long and frustrating. Company accepts they made a mistake, it is all their fault. So why do all the 'solutions' involve me giving them more money when they misused the first lot. Need to write a letter or try again another day (will research alternative providers as I think their conduct has breached our contract and as the injured party it's up to me to decide to continue/rescind). Never say my contract law studies were a waste of time. Decided to leave latest missive to (ex, please ex) energy company until tomorrow.
So I was glad to get in the bath and head off to the city to see DS1 who took me out for a meal, gave me back the money he owed me, took 3 more parcels off me and listened and offered to help with various problems (although he sometimes makes me feel like a helpless little old lady and I'm not).
Things that made me happy
Seeing DS1, being bought food
Happy staff member at the library (one of my books got very wet and it has dried wrinkly so I offered to pay for it)
17p 2 litre bottle of fizzy water put in the freezer for 1/2 hour tastes great
Man trying to sign people up for Hospice lotto arrived at the door as I was finishing the disappointing phone call, chatted, offered sympathy on both companies I was having problems with and kissed my hand. He wants me to invite him in fora brew if I see him passing.
New buses (has been a lot of discussion about the project) are fast, comfortable and it was a lovely day for a ride in the sunshine.
Slightly sad but also unexpected and comical - there was a scrap yard with piled up cars and an adjacent plot with abandoned caravans but at the edge of the scrap yard there was one of those artificial trees that are children's slides - I have seen them at motorway services type pubs iyswim. Not sure if it had been given to the scrapyard (I have seen the men welding the dinosaurs in Prestatyn) or if it was there to amuse the kids whilst their fathers rummage around pretending they are on Scrapheap Challenge.
Wild flowers in abundance everywhere
Restaurant with a tuktuk outside and a load of random old bikes decorated with plastic flowers.
A pub with an Oast house (pub was called the Oast House).
Friendly helpful staff everywhere.
Things done for other people
Librarian was impressed with my honesty
Offered to move to a different seat when a mother with a pushchair got on the bus
More things taken to the charity bin in the library - would have been more but it's nearly full again.
Phoned mum - tried to visit earlier but no one was in. Updated on her health (more problems and hospital visits), brother's health (not good), my health (diagnosis and treatment working), did not lose patience during a long saga about her cousin's daughter (I've not seen her for over 50 years, she was a brat then- adults loved her and she was nasty to small children behind the adults backs) - this involved her soon to be ex philandering husband who has been attacked by another man (will stop before you lose the will to live).
Frugal tip - the 'Preparing for Winter' thread has been bumped. Thought this went with the preparing in advance thing several of us mentioned but also thought 'let us have summer first'. The only new suggestions are looking for hats, gloves and thermals in the sales before they disappear, buying coal at summer prices and starting to collect wood for wood burners on summer walks so not too demanding. My mission in life is not only to survive, but to thrive and to do so with some Passion, some Compassion, some Humour and some Style.NST SEP No 1 No Debt No mortgage0
