  • Redmel - if ovulation pains take place when the egg is released and the egg survives 24 hours then sounds like it's possible to get pregnant in the 4 days before the pains (assuming sperm can survive for up to 5 days etc), during the pains and also one day after :) so... my answer would be, in terms of probability, before because there's 4 days whereas during there's only 1 day and after there's just 1 day too ;)

I was looking on ebay and saw one seller who has 50 ovulation test sticks and 20 pregnancy test sticks (20 mIU/ml) for less than £9 which includes postage! They are from Honolulu but says they are FDA approved - I suspect delivery takes a while though. They work out at less than 13p each so seems like a bargain? I'm considering buying them when used up my Persona sticks but wanted to check what you experienced POASers think!

I've recently come across a charity called Foresight which advises around preconception care particularly nutrition. The statistics are fascinating for couples who have followed their plan. On their website http://www.foresight-preconception.org.uk/ They have interesting statistics about the success they have had with infertile couples - 78.4% of "infertile" couples have successfully gone on to have healthy babies after following the plan! Also their data shows it reduces chances of miscarriage, reduces percentage of children born with disabilities and even helps to increase success at IVF from 22.6% to 47.1%!

I was wondering if anyone has looked into it? If we still haven't conceived by October Mr Pincher has agreed that we can follow the full plan / have the hair analysis etc :D

    I have to disagree :o

My way of thinking is that you can't get pregnant before the pains as there is no egg. To me the pain signals egg release so we do it on the day the pains start and for a couple of days after the pain.
I am only now trying to work out what day I should ovulate so that we can do it the day before pains start so that the sperm is there ready for when the egg is released. Rather than waiting for the day the egg is released.
To my way of thinking you are more likely to fall pg during/after ovulation pains.

Now you still are no wiser Redmel :rotfl:

Um, I think I would kind of say Shelly and Miss Penny Pincher are right between them. Sex before the pains would result (if timed right) in the conception actually happening after the pains. So I would say sex just before and after pains would do the job, as some sperm being in the right place as ovulation occurs, and sex just after would result in some fresh sperm rushing up to meet it too. I would think. Maybe.

Oh dear....what a can of worms i've opened here.
Well I still don't know if they were actually OV pains, as it would mean I am due to have a regular montly cycle for the first time in over a year, mostly it varied from 5 weeks to 4 mths......

I have been logging everything now, something which I have never really done strictly, so I suppose another 2 weeks should tell.
Thanks for the opinions anyway, I suppose I sort of agree with you all, that a few days before would be great to bd as sperm stays alive for a few days anyway, but bd'ing on and just after means fresh is there too!!!!

    HI all

Bit of a long one this but I really need advice so plz bear with me:

As you may know I am about to embark on IVF due to OH problem with sperm, basically not very many swimmers and a poor shape:confused: . I have decided to do an egg sharing programme as there is no way I can afford to pay for the full IVF and by egg sharing it will reduce the cost substantially, so basically half of my eggs will be donated to someone who needs them which I have no problem with and am quite happy to help another woman to be honest.

However, as the law has recently changed with regards to egg donation, any child born as a result of my eggs has the right to information about me in order to find me etc. this is fine also, the bit I am struggling with is that one of the IVF forms asks me to write a message of goodwill to any child that is born as a result of my donation, the form leaves a full side of A4 for me to fill and I just don't know what to put or how to put it into words...........

    Any thoughts or ideas.........

Good god that's a weird one. Something along the lines of you want a family so much, and you're really pleased that someone else can get helped along the way. A "hope you have everything you want in life" comment? Where on earth do you start? Good luck with that one...

Thanks jiblets, really need to get the form completed today and tomorrow and yet everytime I try to write I just end up staring at the page!!!!!
  • That is strange - i wouldn't have a clue where to start either! Shame there's no model answer can edit! Possibly also include something similar to what you said around you are happy for the child to contact you but understand if doesn't feel need to?? Sounds weird even as I write!
