just looking for advice on things to and not to do/eat etc whilst ttc or in early pregnancy.

i have no idea of my cycle as only just come off the pill after about 14 years so we are just going to try and let nature take it's course for a while, but i want to make sure i'm not doing anything that will hinder the process or do damage before i get a BFP! - i'm obviously not drinking and i don't smoke and trying to reduce my caffiene intake but is there anything else?

Hi Stargirl - I've also been wondering what can do to help our chances even a little bit and so now Mr Pincher and I are:

- trying to eat a healthier diet with more veg, fruit, wholegrains, dairy, oats, fish etc cutting out high fat food and chocolate (really difficult). I found this somewhere online about pregnancy superfoods:

pregnancy superfoods
You know what you shouldn’t eat, but what about what you should? Here’s our roundup of bump-friendly fodder…
1 Spinach. Popeye’s favourite veggie snack scores extra pregnancy-nutrition points for being so rich in iron, a nutrient many pregnant women lack in sufficient quantity — and which your baby needs to maintain a healthy blood supply.
2 Mackerel. ‘The omega-3 fatty acids in mackerel help your baby’s brain and eyes develop properly,’ says Nigel Denby, Boots Parenting Club dietitian. [hmm think this is a clue as to where I found it!!! I'm sure now it was in the Boots Parenting Club 101 Things You Should Know About Pregnancy article they have online] (Note, government guidelines recommend no more than two portions of oily fish a week in pregnancy.)

3 Oats. ‘Having porridge or an oat-based cereal at breakfast helps to maintain your body’s blood-sugar levels,’ says Nigel, ‘meaning you’re less likely to get an energy slump in the middle of the day.’ Oatcakes are also good, bland-tasting energy-boosters for days when nausea gets the better of your appetite.

4 Dairy foods. Milk, yoghurt and pasteurised cheese all contain calcium, which is essential for your baby’s bone development. And, of course, regular calcium top-ups are good for your bones as well.
5 Red/orange fruit and veg. ‘Tomatoes, red peppers, mangoes, sweet potatoes, carrots, peaches: they’re all excellent sources of betacarotene,’ says Nigel. ‘And your baby needs betacarotene for cell growth, skin and membrane development and a range of metabolic functions.’
6 Dried apricots and prunes. No prizes for guessing why we’ve included these snack-sized morsels! Packed with vitamin C and iron, they’re also brilliant for keeping you ‘regular’.

7 Apples. Recent studies show that children of mothers who regularly ate apples in pregnancy are less likely to be troubled by asthma. And apples are also a great source of fibre.

8 Nuts and seeds. Provided there isn’t a family history of nut allergies. ‘In a handful of walnuts or hazelnuts or sunflower or sesame seeds, you’ll find fatty acids and calcium but, more importantly, zinc,’ says Nigel. Low levels of zinc have been linked with premature birth and longer labours.

- I get him to eat a handful of pumpkin seeds every day cos they're high in zinc to help his sperm ;)
- we are both taking multivitamins each day
- trying not to let work stress us out although that can be easier said than done I know!
- and doing more exercise to make body stronger in case does happen - mainly swimming and walking although yoga is supposed to be good before and during pregnancy

Marilyn Glenville says on her website that Xenoestrogens are essentially environmental oestrogens, coming from pesticides and the plastic industry. When you are trying to conceive, one of the most important things you need to do is to balance your hormones. It is extremely important to avoid anything that might cause an imbalance, and one of the main culprits is the xenoestrogens. One of the best ways to eliminate an excess intake of xenoestrogens is to buy organic produce for the pre-conceptual period. I'm trying to buy a bit more organic produce but not done too well at that yet :S

It's month 3 of ttc for me, and I've had enough. I was so stressed about maybe getting a BFP last month, I've decided I'm not actually aiming to conceive this month.

Things came to a head last night. DH told me he felt like I only wanted him for his swimmers, and that he felt under pressure to perform. As if! It certainly didn't show! ;) . I had to explain that now I'm not on chemical contraception, I'm a slave to my hormones, and mine are screaming 'BREED'! He seemed placated when I told him I'd had enough of actively trying, and that we should just 'do it' (sorry if tmi).

Why are men so odd? DH would previously have been thrilled at me beating him over the head and dragging him off back to the cave iyswim. Now there's actually a real purpose to do it, other than for fun, he's suddenly feeling all objectified and offended!

I feel like giving up now, but I'm not getting any younger. Any thoughts from anyone else?

My advice would be don't give up Annie if this is what you want! Maybe he's just a little nervous about having a baby and the huge impact it will have on his lifestyle and I suppose we do place a lot of pressure on our guys when decide now is the time :D i keep joking to Mr Pincher that I just want him for his money and his sperm - he just laughs cos he has none of the former ... but there is a tiniest flicker of fear in his eyes when I say it!

Hey girlies after a few months of chilling, eating junk food, drinking wine and spending too much money on clothes my hubby and I were talking the other night and decided we would ttc again (had a m/c last yr). Its hard to tell when I am most fetile as AF is very irregular. Anyways we were reading online and saw something called Clomid. Does anyone have any experience with this? Is it prescipbed by doc or can you buy it online? We have just bought more pre-seed as after ttc for 7 months last yr we got pregnant the 1st month we used it.

We have started going swimming 3 times a week and cut out all junk food

CONFESSION TIME!!!! last week when my sister and I went swimming the "aqua natal" class was on and we sneaked in and pretended to be pregnant. :o:o:o She thought id was a good laugh but I was very embarrassed that I had allowed myself to get so caught up in it all.

As far as I know you have to see a doctor for it. I done a quick google and it seems it can be bought online but comes from America. Personally I wouldn't buy any drugs like this without speaking to your doctor first.

I think I'm going to get some of this. Keep seeing people recommend it and have never really looked into it but I'll do it now :D

 I have a two year old daughter but have been TTC for the last eight months with no luck :!. First time only took four months and I know all about predicting ) days and the signs to watch out for and everything is ok there. I have bad crohn's disease though so I guess its that and after complications with my first it might not be possible again. Can anyone cheer me up?

Right, just done a quick search for pre seed and now I have a couple questions for those of you that have actually used it.

Do you use it every time you have sex?

It seems that a pack contains 6 pre-filled applicator tubes, is that meant to last a month? We are doing it every 2-3 days so I think I might need 2 packs if we have to use it every time.

Also I assume that you don't have to need to use lubricants to use this. I don't need lubricant but it says that it helps sperm get to where it need to go more easily so that would be the only reason I would use it. Silly question but thats ok I presume. It can't hurt can it

Thanks

When watching some channel 5 programme last night, the issue was raised about chlamydia. They discussed how it is very easy for women to have it without knowing, and how it can have implications for fertility, and likelihood of miscarriage.

Before meeting my husband I had quite a few partners, and I guess this could be a risk for me. Does anyone know anything about getting tested? I'd rather not discuss this with my husband. He knows about my partners, and that's not a problem, but he can be a panic merchant, and I'm quite confident everything will be fine anyway. Any tips?

I am currently on Clomid and i think the reason it's prescribed is because they have to monitor you on it - i take 100mg for days 2-6 of my cycle then on day 12 they will scan my ovaries to see if i will ovulate this month then they tell me roughly when i will. Also somewhere nearer the middle of this thread i read that over use can cause cancer - dont know myself if this is true, but i did read it earlier on in the thread. Also Clomid is not a drug i would choose to take if i didn't need to, the side effects are awful (just ask my husband) :

Enlargement of the ovaries
Over stimulation of the ovaries causing production of many eggs
Hot flushes
Abdominal discomfort (swelling or bloating)
Nausea and vomiting
Breast discomfort
Visual disturbances
Headache
Spotting of blood between menstrual periods
Heavy or painful menstrual periods
Endometriosis
Dizziness
Nervous tension
Insomnia
Fatigue
Skin reactions such as rash and itch
Loss of contact with reality (psychosis)
Stroke (cerebrovascular accident)
Depression
Seizures (convulsions)
From experience i got a cyst during my first pregnancy the size of a tennis ball, the pain was awful and this was because i had over reacted to the clomid. Also you should never take Clomid if you are pregnant. I had to have a pregnancy test before i started it.

Hi, we used it every time we "done it" ;) and personally I thought it was great:D. Its actually quite enjoyable :o Its a clear liquid which you just squeeze in before you get down to business. Whereas other lubricants damage sperm, this is actually good for it and helps it on its way. I also think its a good idea to put a towel over a cushion and place it under your bottom after sex. Gravity ;).

we got it from accessdiagnostics.co.uk.

Good Luck xxx

I'm quite sure you could have this done at your doctors surgery. The first time we saw a fertility doctor he done this test, amongst others. My hubby is my first sexual partner but he had a couple of partners before me so they had to do it.

Just done a quick google search and you can buy home testing kits online. Here's the first one that came up http://www.preventx.co.uk/chlamydia.aspx
Do some further research though as thats the first one I found and you might be able to get a cheaper price.

HTH

Edit to add~ Before closing window I noticed it said its a home postal kit. Seems you do a sample at home, send it off and they e-mail you the result.
Not sure if you can do the full test yourself at home. Maybe not.
