  • Ah static- thanks, I always thought implantation would occur right by ovulation, but that explains why so many people get "implantation" pains and think they are period pains. My af is/was due but I'm getting p. pains. I thought it was due mon but I think its gonna be today. Not got sore boobs or anything, haave got a slight metallic taste in my mouth and also the last couple of wks I have been so forgetful! But I think this is tiredness from oh snoring! I LOVE this thread but I do think it makes me over-analyse! Annie M - any news?

Hi static999, I think that explains my early miscarrige last month. I was using 10 IU tests too early. x

Thank you to everyone who has asked/been thinking about me today.

Unfortunately the HPT was negative. It was a very cheap Tesco one though, and reading the posts re sensitivity I'm wondering if it just might not have picked anything up (as I said before, my Mum never got a test to read positive, so I don't have a lot of faith in them).

I might make an appointment to see the doc. I do have symptoms (nausea/tired all the time/scatterbrained/emotional), so maybe...

    *sigh* who knows

Sorry to hear that. I d/n think brands or where you get the HPT matters. Everyone's implantation time varies. A neg now might not mean you aren't pregnant. It could be you ovulated later than you thought or implantation took longer than average. I'll still keep my fingers crossed for you! ;)

I've didn't get the 10mIU from Amazon. Went with cheap strip of 25mIU in the end. Averages to 18p each. Strip has a higher risk of contamination which may lead to incorrect reading but I thought I'll take my chances!
Sitck is highly recommended due to ease of use but also the most expensive! This is b/c it has protective plastic cap for test integrity & wick end is place directly to urine stream when you pee.
Cassette is mainly used by the pros due to accuracy. Urine sample is collected in a pipette & a precise no of drops are deposited on absorbent part. It also has a plastic seal.

My saliva ovulation kit arrived today :j
I ordered FetilityScore' Male Fertility Test today as DH will not go to docs - bad experience few yrs ago. I think that is good for a start. I also wanted a female FSH Test for me but the only home Day 3 FSH test with sensitivity of 10mIU is Fertell at GBP25  Babystart is cheaper but most websites don't show the sensitivity level. I did however find one that say 25mIU which is the same as the menopause fsh fertility test
Guess, I'll keep looking. Last resort will be an appointment for blood test.

For anyone who uses ovulation monitor/sticks, do you only get the 'positive' on one day? Or does it last a couple of days?

Sorry to be impatient but do any of you who are using the ov sticks know the answer to this?

My pack just says that you will get a positive reading approx 3 days prior to ovulation, but doesn't say if it only shows up on one day then disappears again or lasts say 2 days? If it's only one day I want to be completely sure if it's a positive when I think it is, rather than wait to see what the next day shows (which is no good if it only lasts one day iyswim!)

    Hi,
You tend to get a positive OPK the day of your LH surge. The theory is that then you will ovulate in the next 12-24 hours. The hormone then hangs around in your body a bit so you'll probably get positives the next day or two (so really there's no point other than one of curiousity) in doing an OPK stick once you have your first positive. If your positive is also accompanied with EWCM then your luck is definitely in.
    Best of luck,

I've been lurking here for a while. OH and I would like another child. No 1 was conceived after 6 years of trying with lots of fertility treatment, including IUI. No 2 was conceived by accident a few weeks after the birth of no 1 (before he was weaned and whilst still 100% bf)

The Toni Wechsler book (which hasn't worked for me yet this time, sadly) says that once you enter the fertile phase you need to TTC every night. She doesn't use OV sticks, but says the most fertile time is from about 3 days before to just after ovulation.

If she's right, then as soon as you get a +ve reading on the strip, you should start TTC every night and you should continue this for another 4 or 5 days to be on the safe side. If you are doing this, it doesn't really matter whether the first +ve is the surge, or whether the reading is a bit stronger the next night, as you'll have covered all your bases.

The only time I could see it mattering is if you forget to test on a day, and want to test the next day to see whether you are still within the window of opportunity. And I don't know the answer to that!

There has also been some discussion earlier in the thread as to whether you will get AF if you don't ovulate. My experience is that yes you can. It's quite possible to have a regular or fairly regular cycle with bleeding and pre-menstrual symptoms and not in fact to be ovulating. If you do miss AF though, and you aren't pregnant, then this is a sign that your hormones were out of kilter that month, and you almost certainly didn't ovulate.

    Good luck everyone
