Just wanted to pop back in and say hi - I have been busy decorating the lounge and practising ;)lol. I have my fingers crossed for you waiting to get the result you want and i really hope you all get those two lines v. soon.
OH was very please when i told him that i read on here about doing it every 2-3 days lol and I am also using the sticks (which i got from access diagnostics sp?) so hoping this month will be the month although there is a part of me that is worried that if it is this month then will it be third time lucky or unlucky. (What i mean is that on my 2 previous pg i have conceived in march with a dec due date and lost both at around 15 weeks which probably explains my worries).
Anyway trying to be upbeat (despite having more decorating to do!) and hopefully all this hard work lol if you will excuse the expression will be worth it for all of us.Brendan's new dance partner...please0 -
Depends on your age really. If you were 30+ I'd say find out your cycle length, work out ovulation times and have sex on and around those days. Or just have sex every 2-3 days throughout the whole of the month. But if you are under 30 I'd say just do it! Don't stress yourself out with dates and times before you have even started.
Re Persona, I was going to get one of these but my fertility doctor said not to bother, just get normal ovulation sticks, they do the same job. I tried ovulation sticks once but they were negative the whole month but I know I ovulated as I had AF that month so I haven't used them since.
Also get yourself on folic acid every day. I just take Tesco own brand.
HTH & good luck
Thanks shelly - that's really helpful. I'm 27 and OH is 29.
one of the reasons I liked the sound of persona was that it was simple sounding! re: normal ovulation sticks (which are much cheaper!!!) Do I use them every day or just at a certain time of the month - even on the pill I'm not always 'regular' although I always have an AF (but they aren't 'real' while on the pill - just a withdrawl bleed - is that right?). Gosh - you can tell i am new to this can't you!!!!0 -
On the box for the fertility sticks it gives you day to start testing on, depending on your cycle length. My nurse told me you always (?) ovulated 14 days before your 1st day of the period, so that might help you to figure out when's best for you - a few days before that I guess. You get 7 sticks in a normal chemist's pack, and you use a different one each day.
They spot a Lutenising Hormone (LH) surge, which means you are 2 days before ovulating a I think. That is the perfect time to start trying.
I had another BFN this morning, but still no AF. So now Im panicing that I've not ovulated this month. I also made a right show of myself in school this morning. I went in after doing the test and started trying to sort out something work-related that's stressing me out. I started crying almost straight away. I then went right off on one and couldn't get back in control - so much so that my class had to be covered for me, and I didn't make it back up to class for an hour.
I dont' mind having a good cry, but I'm very embarrased about doing it in work. Not on, and I'm quite ashamed of myself. Too many little things have built up, and those in combination with my hormones make me feel so bloody rubbish.
Also, if I just plain skip this period, how am I going to work out when I'm next due to ovulate? I've not been doing BBT, so I guess I'd better start in case this happens again. But it seems so complicated!Am not witty enough to put something cool and informative here:o0 -
And thought I'd dig this out again for all the newbies...
2ww = 2 week wait (between ov and af)
AF = Aunt Flo (Period)
BBT = Basal Body Temperature
BD = "baby dancing"
BFN = Big Fat Negative
BFP = Big Fat Positive (pregnancy test)
CD = cycle day (1st day of AF is the start of a new cycle and is CD1)
CM = Cervical Mucus
CP = Cervical Position (high means ovulation is imminent)
DPO = days past ovulation
EWCM = Egg White Cervical Mucus (The consistency that will stetch between your fingers - ew!)
FSH = follicle stimulating hormone (starts building up during AF to cause follicles to grow on the ovaries and develop eggs)
HPT = home pregnancy test
LH = luteinising hormone (causes the ripest egg to burst out of the follicle - it is a surge in this hormone that ovulation predictors look for, as LH peaks about 12-18hrs before ov)
LP = luteal phase
m/c = miscarriage = loss of a baby in the 1st or 2nd trimester of pg
OPK = ovulation predictor kit
ov = ovulation - the moment the egg (ovum) is released
pg = pregnant
POAS = pee on a stick
tcoyf = "Taking Charge Of Your Fertility", a book by Toni Weschler that's generally considered to be the "TTC Bible". In it, she describes how to track your fertility by temp'ing, checking for EWCM and Cervical Position. See http://www.ovusoft.com/
TTC = Trying to conceive

I know what you mean about the Persona, thats why I was going to get one. I still might.
Take Jiblets advice about using the ovulation sticks as I only used them for one month so don't know enough about them to add to her advice. Though I have read that if you aren't sure what day to start using them, get enough to use them everyday until you get a positive result.
Yes I believe you are right, AF whilst on the pill is not a real one as such.:heart2: Love isn't finding someone you can live with. It's finding someone you can't live without :heart2:0 -
Hello to newbies - good luck!
Well I was convinced AF would make an appearance today, but nothing so far. I feel exhausted and queasy, which I really want to be pg symptoms! I want it to be Wednesday now, so I can take another test!
Jiblets - I feel for you. I think we're going through the same feelings today. I've been worrying I haven't ovulated too, though as I said before, I've never missed a period. Feel free to pm me if you feel like you want a chat - it sounds like you've had a stressful day (I know from experience that teaching can be bad enough at the best of times!)

thanks for the warm welcome everyone
I've been out today and got some more sticks - Boots online have them and also preg tests 20% off aswell as next day delivery BTW. They had sold out of sticks so I had to go and get some but if anyone wants anything else go online. I'm hoping a determined effort this month will achieve results - if anything the thought is keeping my OH smiling ha ha
BTW, startingttc I was told my my doctor not to wait a few months after coming off the pill before TTC - he said research shows that you have some kind of fertility boost in the first few months - he said leave it a month if you want for due dating purposes but otherwise just get on with it. Didn't make any difference for us as we are now over a year down the line but might be worth bearing in mind although I have to say that every doctor I see seems to add something different.
I was told four years ago that I had really bad PCOS and may have trouble conceiving naturally then last year I was retested and scanned and told by a new doctor that he couldn't find any evidence of PCOS or even any mention of evidence of it in my file!! Same hospital aswell, only one floor over!! So now we don't know what to think.
One doctor said ovulation tests are helpful, another one told me they are a load of rubbish.
I was also told stress was hindering conception. I gave up work and now I still have no bambino but I'm a lot poorer!! So I'm looking for work again, albeit part time - OH says I will get a job then fall pregnant straight away just like my friend who gave up after 2 years, booked a really expensive cruise then conceived.
Sorry for ranting, it just gets really confusing when the docs can't seem to agree on anything.
I have to stop stuffing my face to cheer myself up to get my weight loss going again otherwise the only thing I will be giving birth to is an easter egg!0 -
Hope u feeling better today Jiblets.
I found ovulation sticks helpful as I found that I was ovulating on CD20 rather than CD14 as I'd previously thought.0 -
Yes I was the same with the sticks it was always day 18 or 19 despite having a 28 day cycle
Despite what some of the doctors said, I think they are helpful for that very reason although it is easy to get a bit wrapped up in what the sticks say
I quite like seeing that little happy egg on the monitor though - now only if I can persuade it to become friends with my OH's swimmers...0 -
I'm lots better today, thanks lwcus. Still no AF, I'm really assuming I'm just skipping a period now. My HPT arrived in the post today, so I'll probably do another test before I have a drink on saturday just to be sure...
So who's got tips for me on this BBT thing?Am not witty enough to put something cool and informative here:o0
