I don't know how to put this nicely without getting too personal
If you are only going to have sex 4 days before ovulation occurs then your OH will either need to empty himself or you do it for him 2-3 days before you actually want to TTC. This way the sperm will be at its best.
There is some debate about this but I was told by my fertility doctor that sperm is at its best if you have sex every 2-3 days. Even though sperm is constantly being renewed so there will always be healthy ones there, the good ones will be mixed with the dead ones so to give the healthy ones a chance you need to have sex or empty him2-3 days before ovulation.
i.e...You ovulate on say the 15th of the month. So you start TTC on the 12th. He needs to be emptied9th or 10th so the sperm is at its best ready for the 12th.
My hubby and I try to make love every 2-3 days during the whole of the month (as advised by same fertility doctor) but this isn't always practical. Its not very romantic or sponaneous (sp?) either but needs must!!
Then again I have read on forums in the past where women are sure they have conceived on the last day of their period or another day in the month when you wouldn't think it possible. I think thats why we were advised to do it every 2-3 days so you catch the egg whenever it is released.
Good luck.:heart2: Love isn't finding someone you can live with. It's finding someone you can't live without :heart2:0 -
Static999 - If you don't 'do it' that often you probably would be better off actually calculating your ovulation times to maximise the chances of catching the right day rather than just figuring when it is. OH might feel under pressure to perform though when you announce that tonight is the night! Although make sure he understands that trying to conceive actually does mean trying, as in making an effort to do it if you don't do it that often. Are you both taking relevant supplements, watching diet and exercise etc?
Someone posted http://www.mymonthlycycles.com/ on the thread and I used that to help me determine my fertile period this month. Also last week, I did notice my CM was a little "sticky". (Learned all this from this thread so thank you all!! :j ) So I figured last week could be the week! DH is very forgetful and so I did announce that "this week would be the s*x week" just to prepare both of us mentally & physically.
On the supplements front, we both have been taking B-Complex for years. There is 150mcg of folic acid in there though someone here did say 400mg is best. I've yet to buy it but I will get some this weekend. We have also been taking zinc on and off for a few yrs. Currently, he's on 15mg Chelated Zinc with Copper. But, going forward I will make sure zinc is his new best friend. I would say my diet is not bad - I love home-made fresh food & am not a fan of junk food. But, I still like the odd bag of crips occasionally. DH's diet is not so good when I'm not around. He's a robot!! Work work work and unlike me dislike food! But, last month or so, he's changed a bit. He now have fruit juice/smoothies for lunch and occasionally have a proper lunch meal like a normal person :T DH does some weights, pushups etc at home as I now forbid him to join the gym considering each time he joins, he only go 2 times in a month if lucky!! Currently, i'm doing pole dancing :rotfl: but I intend to quit if I'm preggers and take up yoga instead. Looks like that might not happen for a long while.0 -

That was exactly my plan!I wasn't disappointed the 1st day as I know I have a few more days but I got more disappointed and actually really angry when all that happen was just a poking game! (sorry, tmi). I told him last night we've missed the boat coz of him and he just smiled and say I don't want a Dec baby!! I'm actually starting to think he's not ready & don't want to admit it openly! I intend to discuss our TTC plan again when I get a chance coz I don't think he understand the potential problem(s) or have thought about the long term.

Thank you for pointing this out. I did wonder about it at the beginning of last week.I will definitely bear this in mind for next month. When I told DH some weeks back TTC MSE says sperm is best when you release it every 2-3 days and he says he always thought its best to "keep it" as each time you release, you lose a lot of your energy! Maybe he's trained his body all these years how to not get me preggers
and its difficult to relearn what he knew! :rotfl:

Forgot to say, thank you Miss Penny Pincher! I will definitely check this out.0 -
Yes it can be awfully difficult to time it cant it. Yet another unfair point when those who have "accidents" conceive just fine!
I have just beenm on to my clinic, they are so nice its unbelievable. Anyway oh has to do another sample and we can then decide what to based on the results of that. If its better than the last one, (it couldnt be much worse!!) then we may go on to clomid. If its the same then oh will have to have some blood tests and possibly a tablet which is basically clomid for men. Has anyone heard of this? Does for men what clomid does for women. omg am so excited, things are finally moving fowards! Had my talk with oh a few days ok, not as serious as I had hoped but we are both singing from the same hym sheet anyway which is what I wanted to know, perhaps he isnt quite as "desparate" as me (!) but I feel like there MAY be light at the end of the tunnel!
By the way to those who are having trouble getting in the mood, I know this sounds bad but of you force yourself into it a few times, it does make you wnat it more as time goes on- hth xxxCompulsive Spendaholic #150 -

Welcome all newbies!!
I've just received an order of 10 preg tests from babymad through the post. They were getting a bit expensive as I start testing 3 days before AF due!! I wish I could wait til AF due before testing but as i've mentioned before I'm not the most patient person in the world. I might test tomorrow morning or Thursday. I dont feel pregnant though so will probably be in for another dissapointment. Girl in work has just announced that she is pregnant (unplanned) so I might take it a bit harder this time.
Good luck everyone xx0 -
Have we syncronised Lwcus? I'm due on Friday. I'm trying my best to hold off on the test, but I think I'm going to have to test on Thursday. I can feel my hormones taking hold as we speak. I had a dream last night where my husband was chatting up some girl in a topless bar. I woke up really upset, and I couldn't shake it until I went to work. Such a dullard.Am not witty enough to put something cool and informative here:o0
