Foresight is a charity that looks at preconceptual care - there is a book 'Planning for a healthy baby' I think; they recommend the preconceptual optimum nutrition for both parents to be. Took advice from them for all 3 of mine - brilliant, I think.

    Hi all

Congrats to the latest round of BFPs!

Haven't posted for a while but thought I'd pop in and give you an update on our 'fertility diet' now we've done over 2 months.

My DW has PCOS with a cycle all over the place, anything from 40 days to over 100 days, and after a year of no result we thought while we waited for our consultants appointment we'd give the natural route a go to see if diet could regulate her cycle and of course get a BFP. We bought The Fertility Diet by Sarah Dobbyn and followed the advice in that.

    So, the results so far...

We were completely taken by surprise when in the first month DWs cycle came down to 28 days and this has been followed in month 2 by another 28 day cycle. If it's regular again in month 3 then I think it will be pretty conclusive that the diet works for improving PCOS. We'll have to wait till her day 21 test this cycle to see if there's evidence of her ovulating but if she is and her cycle continues to be regular then we've pretty much doubled our opportunity to conceive which is great.:j

The other net benefit is that we've both become much healthier and fitter. We are both probably a little 'overweight' but so far I've lost over a stone and DW is just behind on 12lbs which annoys her - however I do more exercise as I keep pointing out to her! Importantly we both feel really good for doing it, although I do miss the odd pint and bottle of wine...

So i can highly recommend the book judging by how quickly it's made a difference for us. There's advice on foods to help all sorts of other conditions too as well as general 'fertility friendly' foods and what to avoid etc.

We saw our consultant for the first time last week and she reinforced the importance of diet and weight for those who are having trouble ttc. It's likely DW will start a course of Clomid in any event but her main advice to us was to keep up the healthier lifestyle and forget about the charting, symptom spotting, worrying, early testing etc etc and just BD every 2-3 days, relax and enjoy ourselves! So DW has put the OV sticks, thermometer etc in the cupboard and we're strictly following doctors orders... ;)
  • Hi all and welcome newbies :D

Going for my 21 day blood test in a minute. I know they are not going to tell me anything now but I am nervous anyway:o ! Silly moo I am!

I nearly slipped up to my Mum that we are ttc because she wondered why I was going for a blood test so I just mumbled something about my hormones and having been on the pill! She said "you're not preggers are you?" so I said no, whilst secretly thinking that I suppose I could be, lol! Just 1 more week of 2ww before AF due, I so hope she doesn't come this month. Could really do without the guest, lol!

Doesn't look like my husband will be going to work away now though so that makes life easier for BDing. Going without for 10 weeks would not have been conducive to ttc if I am going to get a BFN this month, which I am sure I am going to get. Shame really cos the money was really good but it obviously wasn't meant to be. We will keep on muddling through.

Does anyone else worry about the financial aspect of having a baby? I do, but I keep thinking that our families will (hopefully) look after the sprog when I have to go back to work. I am under no illusion that I could give up work (although I would love to). You never know whats going to happen though so will keep on playing the lottery!:D

Rosie Bud - financial worries affects us all I think :) I don't have any family nearby and neither does DH... in fact my family are in Denmark and Hubbies in Spain and Scotland! Going back to work for me is either going to be incredibly expensive OR involve an aupair... something we're seriously considering... Especially if we could find a danish one to help encourage danish around the baby...
As I'm on a good salary I can't see us affording to have me lounging at home unless hubby gets a REALLY good payrise between now and May :)

BTW looked up the estimated cost of au pairs and for what we'd like we're looking at about £80 a week - I'd happily pay more than that even double to get a great au pair who could work round us :)

Same, our families are in Scotland and Kent so not too sure what we will do.....didn't think about an au pair, wanted to try and convince my sister to come and be our childminder but she though I was joking (wasn't) but need to have one first ;) a baby that is!

Ooh, following seeing possible EWCM earlier maybe, I am now having what feels like slight AF cramps but more like twinges- could this be ov related too?

    Thanks :D

AF arrived this afternoon. Feeling a bit grumpy about it to be honest, as for some reason one particular BD session just felt so special to me, I thought we would just have to conceive from it. I guess I can still fool myself...

Well, managed to get DH twice over the weekend (not that it was difficult!), at the same time as I was getting the ov pains. So may try again in a couple of days just to try and 'make sure'!

At least it's good for the pocket - whilst you're busy getting jiggy you're not spending any money!
