I am chemistry/spectroscopy geek
but also did some maths at uni in my first degree (I don't like physics though!)
Orally sounds better to me too, but read that the temps can be effected if you have been breathing from your mouth when asleep etc so down below sometimes regarded as more reliable due to no breathing activity from thereBut if you are finding the oral method works fine then I might try that (this sounds filithy sorry!)

Hey...I'm a chemistry geek too! ...much as I liked maths though, I moved over to the organic side so that I could spend my time "cooking" in the lab.
When I was doing BBT I got the Boots BBT thermometer and the instructions said that it could be used both orally or vaginally. The down below method is supposed to be more accurate, but I chickened out!!
I have to admit that the month I conceived was the month after I stopped worrying about BBT...so this time around I'm going to leave it for a while, although I don't know how long I'll hold out for until I feel the need to start measuring things again..:rotfl::jBaby boy, Hugh, born on the 8th June 2009, weighing 2.5kg:j0 -
I think any digital thermometer is fine for BBT, but they do need to be digital, because they need to show the small increments.Am not witty enough to put something cool and informative here:o0

Hi All,
Just checking in and to let you know I got my BFP on Friday:j Feeling very lucky it happened so quickly (3rd month ttc). EDD is 8th May.
For the symptom spotters out there - I didn't really have anything that couldn't also be attributed to AF being due, until the day AF was due anyway (Other than I didn't get my usual migraine.) Did suspect for some days though due to triphasic temp.
Can't recommend the book tcoyf highly enough, I think it really helped speed things along.
Congrats RiaAnn...just reading your post I thought it could almost be me posting!!!!!! :T :T
We were on our 3rd month of ttc too and I'd just about read the tcoyf from cover to cover and had been temping for only one and a half cycles! My edd is the 5th of may and I had only recently posted about it being time that someone joined me with a May 09 edd!!!
Good luck with your pregnancy and good luck to all the ttc'ers on here. It's still addictive to keep reading your posts to see how you are all getting on...
Happy bd'ing!

I have just done a bit of an experiment with the two methods, taking one reading after the other...
Got a oral reading of 37 and a down below reading of 37.38 so there is quite a variation to be had there...

I can't stop symptom spotting! I've never felt so pleased at being nauseous and having mild cramps.0

Hi all and thanks for the warm welcomes!
Thanks for the heads up for those home fertility tests, GracieP, that is much appreciated. I think what we will do for the time being is keep BDing because he is getting obsessed too and I don't think he would be able to abstain for the 2-3 days before testing. We will just keep BDing this month till he goes away and then while he is away I will get myself investigated. Then I will order one of those male tests for when he gets back (if we need it). Its excellent to know we can do something without having to wait for hospital appointments. Its so frustrating now he has this job to be working away. Ho hum, will just have to make the best of it when he is home, lol!
I am allegedly supposed to be OVing today, although this is my first month of tracking my cycle and I am not doing BBT. Maybe I will do the BBT when he is away to get more of an idea of actual OV date. I am on CD14 so have been BDing plenty so maybe some of those little swimmers will get there and save me £20! lol.
Fingers crossed (but not legs) for everyone.;)

Sorry to be a pain, I forgot to ask this on my last post. Doh!
I was going to buy some folic acid this morning but was in a rush and have picked up Pregnancy Supplement (Asdas own). Are these just meant for when you have conceived? Can you take these instead of just folic acid? They have 400micrograms of folic acid along with Vit D, E, C, Thiamin, Riboflavin, Niacin, vit B6, vit B12, vit K, iron, magnesium, zinc, iodine, selenium, copper and beta carotene. It doesn't matter if they are no good before conception as I will just keep them and get some more folic acid. Just thought I would ask if these would be any good before? I am of the mind that all the goodness in them can't be a bad thing but don't want to get even the littlest thing wrong!
Thanks in advance
