  • Oh dear, I have just come out of a meeting and locked myself in the toilets to cry for 20 minutes. It is not like me at all, I am normally a tough woman working in a mans industry - jesus, if they knew they made me cry they would eat me alive. I just feel like everything is getting on top of me.

Just makes me think that if I do get pg I am going to seriously struggle to keep up with work.

    Sorry to ramble.

Congrats miss_pink, beccaoz good luck with the exercise (I need some too!) did he recommend BD as a cradio vascular ;)

Well tonight OH takes his home fertility test, after managing to refrain from sexual activity since Sunday (the longest he's managed ever, he says lol). We've had the test for months and this is the first time he's managed to follow the instructions and 'hold it in' for 3 days. We are not expecting anything conclusive though but he sees me doing my ovulation tests and I think he just wants a go at testing something!

Next month sees a trip to the doctor as it will be 12 months since first TTC, my cycle is still random and any ovulation tests I do don't show anything up really (tried urine and saliva ones), I get an indication of ovulation for 1 day then nothing and the instructions says it should appear for a few days. Sometimes is says no ovulation at all then AF makes an appearance so surely it did happen but it never got picked up? CM doesn't seem to change an awful lot so can't tell by that either, what a kerfuffle! Have been charting for a few months now and it really does all seem random, no pattern whatsoever between cycle length, when it shows I 'might' ovulate, when I get a sign I 'might have' ovulated and time until next AF... nothings the same each month. Doctor sent me for 'Day 21' blood tests a couple of times however as my cycle was all over the place that obviously showed no ovulation.

Honeypop - your situation sounds similar to ours. My DW's cycle has been all over the shop since coming off the pill last summer. We have tried the OV tests but with no timings to go on it's been near impossible, she's also had an indication of ovulation for 1 day but then that's it. AF now hasn't appeared since end of Feb. They've taken a blood test, doc says could be anything from stress to PCOS, fortunately the doctor has been great and referred DW straight away, she's got a hospital scan on July 3rd. I'm off to see the same doc tomorrow morning to be checked out . Have persuaded DW to come along with me, for moral support :o.

Bit of a nervous wait but both feel like we are at least going to know one way or the other what our chances are. Anyone got an idea how long it takes for the results to come through?

miss_pink - good news on getting your appt moved forward!

Yes I suspect PCOS aswell for mine, being 'only 28' I had to wait the 12 months of TTC before they look into it any further apparently, booooo. We haven't been too concerned up to now, as we're getting married in October but hopefully when we see Doc next month he can start making steps to check things out etc.

Don't know how long test results take, both I wish you both well for your tests!

When I had my scan and found out I had PCOS, the nurse who was giving me the scan told me that both my ovaries were absolutely covered in cysts, but told me to make an appointment with my doctor about a week later to confirm. It shouldn't take too long to find out, it didn't with me. It was devastating to me when I found out, but with support from your OH you can get through it and on the right track with medication, and help while TTC. I've got my fingers crossed for you though.

Thanks. We're feeling lucky we haven't had to wait the full 12 mnths, DW is 33 so probably the only time that age is an advantage! In a way we're hoping that it is something like PCOS (as opposed to unexplained or untreatable) as at least there are ways to treat it. Good friends have recently been through the same - diagnosed with PCOS after 12mnths, when the inital dose of Clomid didn't work they upped the amount and they got the BFP straight away. Baby is due in about 2 wks. Gives plenty of cause for optimism!

Will let you know how we get on...

  • After 6 months of ttc I have just been made redundant. What would peoples advice be now?
Do I keep trying and just get statutory maternity pay IF I get pregnant or do we stop trying until I get a permanent contract somewhere that will pay maternity pay?
We don't have much money left at the end of the month to save so it is all down to the financial situation. What are peoples opinions?

Considering companies that pay extra for maternity leave are few and far between (although depends what industry you're in I guess), then I'd work on the basis that you will only get statutory maternity pay - or maternity allowance if you're not employed yet by the time you conceive. And if you can't afford that, then there is your answer. It would be a bonus if you found somewhere that paid company maternity pay, however normally you'd have had to be working there for a minimum amount of time before it applies to you (normally 3-6 months).

I think that you and your other half should be the people to make this decision princessflea. I don't think that there is ever a 'perfect time' when we all have enough money in our accounts, as there are always bills to pay. I think you need to weigh up the pros and cons to both options. Also, do you have any money saved that you could use if you did decide to TTC?
Well done miss pink with the appt and getting it changed :)
My Fathers Daughter-chin up love. Sounds like its just been a bad day, and it has NO reflection on how you would be as a mum
