Drubags please don't get disheartened by some of our more interesting posters.

Before you go formal is therr anyone who would act as an intermediary? Failing that I would speak to police, also read your insurance to see if it might be covered failing that small claims but if he doesn't have them or the money what would you hope to achieve?

I don't know why some of you are being like this! I'm not saying it's now worth 10 grand but it was new. The £5000 is the second hand value to replace it now. It's not a fraudulent claim, I'd claim for £5000 if I went down that route.

Yes I have been quite laid back. It's my nature and in this case not very helpful. I try hard not to upset people or make things hard for them if I can help it.

We have some mutual friends so maybe I'll asked their advice too, I just don't want anyone to feel awkward.

Thank you to those who have offered helpful suggestions and don't think I'm some sort of scammer/fraudster. :)

There are some 'interesting' posters on MSE and it's scaring off the newbies.

Just stick them on ignore if needs be.

    And welcome :-)

As I previously said, it's his property and he doesn't have to let anyone in. Not even the police.

I have opinions on this case, but not really relevant.

OP you might find that the insurers class all that kit as '1 item' and therefore won't pay out.

Comparable might be expensive dishes and cutlery. Individually not over the limit, but as a set they are.

Oh now the equipment is worth ten thousands pounds rather than five thousand.
Insurance companies can see through deviant claims im sure. It is like me saying my engagement ring is worth three thousand but I then tell them its now eight thousand hmmm indeed.

No its not worth 10k, it's worth 5k which is what the op has always stated.

Jeezo the Jessica Fletcher curtain twitching comments desperate to "out" a poster are killing this forum, along with the haughty toned "I wouldnt" insert whatever has been done by an op.

Whether or not you would spend 10k on handbags or camera equipment is neither here or there to this thread. The op did and was asking how to get it back, she doesnt need the busied bodied Poirots accusing her of insurance fraud.....

No but she should be aware of the potential can of worms.

How the OP chooses to spend her money is obviously up to her, but it's hardly sensible to not check what's been handed back.

Rental agreement in 2011 in both names. DH has poor credit history, what's the chances of them moving and getting agreement in his name only? Seems inconsistent.

Unless he had a ccj or other public record, the chances would be just like anyone else as letting agents can only check public records....

    What nonsense!
The OP said the stuff was worth £5k.
Where has she said she paid £5k for it?
She's clarified that the £5k she mentioned is the value now, £10k was what she paid.

I doubt the OP intends putting in a 'deviant' (sic) claim to her insurers. :rotfl:

I don't think you are a scammer. However unless the ex 'finds' and returns them I don't think you've got a cat in hells chance. The police is just a threat. They won't be interested. You can't prove anything. You 'think' you left them behind just as you 'thought' you brought them with you. He says he's looked and they aren't there. They've vanished. That isn't proof of anything, that they were there, that he kept/sold/dumped them. They are missing. You also can't demand entry and search of ex's home. You have no legal rights there any more. His home/tenancy -you live elsewhere.

Insurance is probably the best route. How easy or hard the claim will prove to be I've no idea. But it's genuine. You can prove ownership from receipts and can honestly say they were lost in the move, you don't know when or where or how but they are now missing.

    Best of luck.

No posters shouldnt be aware of the can of worms others make of threads. There is not rules which say in your op please post every single detail down to your shoe size incase the mse Colombos find inconsistency with your previous posts.

Folk coming on here are posting problems asking for help, they might not put all info in the first post, perfectly understandable, then when they give more info the mse dectectives more interested in feeding their own ego by proclaiming motives that aren't there or saying they would never do x y or z jump all over them.

In this case "I wouldnt spend 10k on cameras" or "I wouldnt lose something in a emotional house move."

Life isnt perfect thats why folk find themselves needing help and advice.
