Ex won't give property back

I'm wondering if house insurance would cover it?
Depends on the insurance. You've only misplaced the camera at this point, lost it; it hasn't been damaged or stolen. And it was at his house, not yours; cover for items outside the home do generally still have to be in your possession.
I think your only route is to go to the Police, say he's stolen (and sold) it, then open an insurance claim. But I wouldn't be optimistic as I think they won't agree he stole it.:heartpuls Mrs Marleyboy :heartpuls

They are definitely not in my new house and he is claiming he doesn't have them.
Its odd to say they are definately not in your new house unless you were unsure whether he gave them back to you or not. Would you not have noticed 5 grands worth of cameras missing at the time? Please do not quote spam as this enables it to 'live on' once the spam post is removed.

Maybe tell him that insurance need a police reference number so you'll have to call them and they may want to speak to him about it to confirm he has no idea where they are. That way you're not directly accusing him and are still being 'friendly' but hopefully he will 'find' them. Seems very strange that you wouldn't miss £5k of camera equipment - that's got to be a large box/case of equipment and if you have that much it must be a serious hobby so how come it took you this long to realise you needed to do something about not having them?"I cannot make my days longer so I strive to make them better." Has he got an eBay account your aware of? Might be worth checking that as a first step.0

If someone moves out and doesn't take all their belongings, what's a reasonable amount of time to keep or store it?0

You should call the police for sure, if that doesn't work contact a solicitor who can help, its yours, and if you have proof that you purchased it even better!0

I too am confused why you didn't deal with this when you realised there were not with you. Surely you would know where they would be expected to be in the house, so why give him 2 weeks to look then, let alone now.0

I didn't want to get into personal details but it wasn't civil to begin with and he wouldn't talk to me. Then he lost his job and his dad passed away so I was trying to be kind in giving him more time. I also didn't say it was amicable, just that it wasn't sour at the moment.
It's all kept in a small camera backpack so it doesn't take up a lot of room and I thought I had it until I double checked when I wanted to use it.
He has a lot of issues so it's not as simple as just saying I'm going to the police straight away.
I've said I've had enough of waiting and so now I'm going to deal with it. My question was police or insurance.0 -
Do you have a key to the property or did you give it back to him?0
