I agree with MTSTM
I've read all of this thread (give or take a few pages around 50ish) and while I think PN has expressed some very strong opinions and outlined some extreme personal experiences, I haven't read anything targeted at any individuals here.
While PN might well regret anyone feeling bad as a result of her posts, as an impartial observer I would not say she attacked any individual with malice.
On the other hand, some of the posters have responded to some of those posts with quite personal criticisms and challenges - indicating they are responding defensively to a perceived attack.
I would suggest anyone reading any contributions on this tread understand that peoples views do vary, that humour and intent do not transmit well via the written word, and that it's very unlikely that anyone on this thread cares about your specific eating habits (as opposed to sharing general experiences and views).
She was quite rude to SDW, you must have missed that.
For my part when I responded personally to PN it wasn't in response to a personal comment aimed at me, it was to try to show how some of her comments could be perceived, as she seems not to realise.
Anyway, things had moved on, no point in going over the same ground.0 -

But I'm sure we've all met one.... can hardly breathe for the speed they're shovelling in food, going red in the face with rushing at everything, sinking bottles of wine (not drinking them), tucking in as if they're in a speed contest, totally focussed on the sheer volume/weight that can be squeezed in, in the shortest possible time, while hailing passing waiters for more wine - and, invariably, 'encouraging' everybody else to tuck in, eat more, drink more, finish the bottle, lightweight .... and still managing to order so much food they can't actually eat everything they've ordered...
I've only encountered two like this.... but I can't be alone in having encountered them.
I've still got very vivid memories of one at an indian restaurant in Devon.
They stick in your mind, so bizarre a spectacle it is to behold.
I have been to an 'all-you-can-eat' Asian restaurant and seen people pile their plates high and then leave half of it.

It's not more important, it is equally important - if only the food is important you could equally say "why not just have dinner at home"? The point of eating out as a group is to enjoy good food and good company. Being forced to eat more or less than you want to satisfy the whims of your dining companions doesn't some like much fun to me.
Because most of us don't cook as well as the chefs in upmarket restaurants.

Or those in ethnic restaurants who are cooking their own cuising either.0 -

I never understand why people do that - if you put a small amount on a plate at a time and then return for more, the food you eat is actually hot.0 -

I appreciate what you're saying, and appreciate 7DW found it offensive, but if you're talking about the not being invited to a murder mystery weekend being because 'they just don't like you' comment, I did read it and didn't give it a second glance. I think some of the comments made before and since were much more insulting, and think it was a misplaced attempt at humour rather than an insult.
As I said, humour doesn't translate well in text.
From someone who has no stake in this thread, I think it unfortunate 7DW found it offensive, and right for PN to express regret, but an overreaction to call it 'quite rude'That sounds like a classic case of premature extrapolation.

I was invited, but declined because I hate this type of event and idn't want to be a party pooper.
I found it very insulting to even suggest that someone I have been friends with for over forty years ( and my husband has been friends with over fifty years) didn't want me to come because they didn't like me. PN knew I had known them this long because I had said so in another post.
I explained to PN that I found it insulting and asked if it was meant to be humour, because I don't always recognise certain types of humour. She said it was, so I left it.
However, other people also found it insulting, so it wasn't just me.
PN has now apologised and we have agreed that the matter is now behind us.(AKA HRH_MUngo)

I always think that with hotel breakfasts. I don't know if people are worried the food will run out but they do seem to pile it on. I do like my food hot so I wondered if it was just me. I also like to take my time over breakfast, as my husband isn't too good first thing, before pain killers kick in, I often have breakfast alone so will relax and take my time as I know we aren't going to be rushing off anywhere. Thinking about it I probably eat more and enjoy it more at breakfast than at dinner.Sell £1500

I noticed when I was in Las Vegas, that some of the hotels were serving their buffet food in little individual pots. You can still take as much food as you like, but I think the hope is that as it's all individually portioned that it will help to cut down on food wastage.
I think it's a good idea actually. Obviously there was still people taking more than they could possibly eat, and then wasting it, but I think in general it will help.0 -

While this can seem extreme, the manager at the local AYCE told me that there are some people who actually go to the food bar, load up, eat it all, then return to the food bar, load up again, put it on the table and walk out!
You couldn't make it up could you! What sort of bizarre thinking is that? It's one that's about £7-8 for all you can eat, so they can't perceive that they've been ripped off. It's not like it was £30!
People like that just spoil it for everyone. I can't imagine how they justify that to themselves.Sell £1500
