I just thought you might all like to know I bought a new pan today. It cost me just £2.67 delivered from Amazon :rotfl:

That's all I'd eat from those two lists :)
Lots of funny stuff in there. Stuff I've never had, stuff I don't like and stuff I can't even pronounce.

    WOT NO PIE???

    :)

As for "aged grapes" - if I were paying £75 I'd want FRESH ones!!

We ate at Ormer, the first menu I put up and tbh it was very underwhelming, I would have preferred pie and chips.:D That said, we have had some really nice tasting menus; at L'Enclume in Cartmel for example, but just because they say it is good doesn't mean it actually is!!

I've never been, but I think Taster Menus often tend to be special nights. You order well in advance and book in advance, they're a special night they put on say 2-3-4 times a year.

    They're not.

I know that it isn't the norm to split hotel bills equally - but my point is that the restaurant bill-splitters seem to have some sort of mental block in understanding why many people are unhappy about splitting the bill equally. If you can understand why I wouldn't want to split a hotel bill equally why can't you understand why I don't want to split a restaurant bill equally? My reasons for not wanting to do either are essentially the same - I don't want to subside somebody else's indulgence.

Not so. I can absolutely understand why in many circumstances that is the easier and less stressful thing to do. But what I cannot understand is why some insist on going to places they cannot afford to eat at 'for the atmosphere' with no regard to the fact that they are ruining it for the others.

And no matter what you say, if a group go out and one person sits there with a bowl of soup (despite wanting more) and a glass of water because it's all they can afford, while everyone else is tucking into multiple courses and wine, it does ruin it.

One thing I see on the telly is where those chefs cook stuff on the hob, then slide it into the oven. It's a rare pan that you can do that with.... I bet many a plastic handle's been wrecked by people following those recipes.

Yours looks like it does that - from hob into the oven - although the description doesn't state that.

I always wondered if mine'd be OK to do that with ... Tefal, you'd think they'd clearly state yay or nay, but manufacturers don't give you essential details do they.

That's one of the reasons I love my pans because the handle detaches and you can put the pan in the oven. They're Tefal, but I've forgot the model already.
I'm not suited to eating at places with strange food. If I'm paying a fortune I want to KNOW I'll like it (and not gag) ... I'd not wish to waste good money turning down dish after dish ....

I stick to what I know. I order what I like, I eat it all and enjoy it. I go home knowing I spent good money (£8-10) eating something I enjoyed and expected .... except the last carvery that was pretty minging to be honest. I'm sure somebody'd made a mistake and washed the sweetcorn through with washing up liquid, it tasted funny though ..... won't go back there in a hurry! They also did the Yorkshires "all wrong" - some huge puff ball style of Yorkshires. Wrong, just wrong.

I should've left a tip for the chef: "Don't dabble with the food..... "

I hear what you're saying, and you remind me of my Mam as she always sticks to the same things and thinks all places should sell Roast dinners and "non of this weird muck!"

However, it's sometimes good to branch out a little, maybe try something new. I'm much more adventurous with food now, and eat some things I never thought I would enjoy.

If that's the case, then the only person allowing it to ruin their evening is yourself, and how you are choosing to react to it.

I could not care less what my dining companions have, and I'm pretty damn sure their eating habits would not spoil it for me in enjoying my food.

    .

Oh come on! NOBODY is going to sit there with a bowl of soup, and a glass of water for the entire evening! That's pure hyperbole! If anything, people with less money would just choose cheaper options; like a pasta bake instead of a sirloin steak. And then maybe a bowl of ice cream for dessert.

If you get 'offended' at someone not spending as much as you, then that says more about you than them. What others choose to spend is NOTHING to do with you. If you started looking down your nose at me, if I chose to spend half of what you do, then that would be the last time you would have the pleasure of my company.

To suggest that people having less 'ruins' it for others, is one of the most ludicrous things I have ever heard. Are people that precious that they can't bear people spending or eating less than them. !!!!!!, when I go out for a meal with friends, I go for their company, and for a chat, not to sit there judging them for having small portions!

    Good grief!!!
    You didn't, did you? :rotfl::rotfl:

Yes, this has no plastic on it at all so would be ideal for transferring from hob to oven. I think some of the Tefal ones can go in an oven too but only up to a certain temperature but it's not a risk I'd want to take.

This is more of a flat bottomed wok than a normal frying pan so will be ideal for batch cooking curry, risotto, pasta sauces etc as it's twice as deep as my usual pan.

    I've been Money Tipped!
Just got back from dinner with friends and split bill down the Middle - we paid the tip because they drove. I couldn't imagine adding mine up separately, the room was dark with lovely twinkly lights and it would have meant getting my iPhone torch out to separate the Bill lol
Never again will the wolf get so close to my door

There are many reasons why a person might choose to only have a bowl of soup, ranging from cost, to a medical reason, or perhaps they're just not that hungry. But I utterly fail to see how they ruin the meal for you. How is the taste of your own food affected by what your dining companion has on their plate?

A number of people have said that their meal would be ruined if a fellow diner ate fewer courses than them, but nobody has explained why.
