  • Nothing much to report this week.

We have a lovely tidy garden with all of the woodwork painted in a warm cedar red. Mr Light has been busy scrubbing the patio furniture as it has gone a bit green but is coming up nicely with a scrubbing brush and elbow grease. I bought a new lavender for £4 to replace the one we had to chop down and I am looking forward to watching it grow over the next few years.

I bathed the cat yesterday...........she is furious:eek: much less yukky and smelly though.

Budget is looking tidy and I should make my full savings this month of at least £1200. We haven't been going far so have saved money on fuel and expenses. Today I have planned a nice long walk followed by a chilled out afternoon of pottering in the garden and a film. I also need to get back on my yoga mat as I am feeling a little down and that always helps.

    I miss my boys:o

  • Thought I had better show my face!

I finally broke up from work on Monday and do not have to return until 15th August:j I can spend some time updating myself with all things MSE

In terms of a catch up I guess the main things are:
Savings have been going well and I am now 71% to my December target and 17% to my total FIRE pot with 4 years to go (or sooner depending on Mr Light's pension)

I have stuck to my no new clothes plan

Need to lose some weight and up my exercise (nothing new there)

Sadly we had to say goodbye to our lovely 20 year old cat :( her passing was peaceful and she did not suffer.

I shall be around much more in the next few weeks, see you all soon:)

Sorry about the cat, Light. :(
But pleased you're done for the summer - I have 3 more days to do.
  • Welllll........

What a busy bee I have been! Some pretty amazing things have happened in the last few weeks which have really made me re-focus and roll my sleeves up.

I had an absolutely fantastic financial coaching session with The Escape Artist (if anyone decides to do the same please let me know first as I get a free session if someone comes to him from recommendation). It was the best £175 and 2 hours I have spent in my life and he has shown me a way to become financially independent in as short amount of time as possible.

We worked it out...................2 years:eek: Honestly, I cannot believe it!

So I have been getting totally screwed by fees in my S&S ISA and Mr Light's pension pot is all over the place with different providers and needs to be transferred to a low cost SIPP tracker.

Listen to me..............it sounds like I know what the hell I am doing:rotfl:

In 2 years we plan to walk away from our full time jobs and do whatever we want. Both of us will still do some sort of paid work for a good while after but the calculations are based on a full year of earning zero money after FI date and then a modest earnings target of £5000 between us after that. Other things that we can do is downsize which is not a bad idea as this house is far too big for us now the boys have left home and we have 4 whole rooms that we never use.

Sorry, I am rambling........but I am so pumped!

Other things we can do to make a bit of a side hustle is:
A season as couriers on a campsite ( I really want to do this)
    Dog walking
    Temping
    Exam marking (me)
    Maths tuition (me)
    Mystery shopping (both of us)
    House sitting

    Any other ideas welcome:)

I have also said goodbye to my vinyl collection as we have given ourselves a target of £500 for the month of August to make from selling and surveys etc.

Earnings so far this month £169

I promise to be back more often.:)
