When you work out that independence is in your grasp within the short term future, it is indeed a wonderful thing.

    Hi,
I've just come across your diary. It's been a really interesting read - I didn't read every single page, but hopefully enough to get up to date!

You have a great sense of humour - I like the idea of thinking of providers as staff, definitely makes me think about it a bit more. I was watching Eat well for less on iplayer (still free until September!!), and one of the presenters made the point that by buying pre-grated cheese and stuff like that you're basically paying more for someone to do a 30 second job for you - not that we do, but I don't think many people think of it this way.

I don't know if you got a water butt in the end, but many councils/ water companies subsidise water butts and compost bins. We recently moved house and paid £25 for a really good compost bin that would have cost over £100 thanks to our council.

It's amazing that you could be FI in 2 years. You must both be feeling pretty awesome right now!

So, two hours with the Escape Artist (great name!!!!) and how many hours checking the figures again and again as it seemed unbelievable :D. Sometimes you just need to stand back and see the bigger picture. Like you've said it sounds like you've spent the best £175 of your life :T. Bring it on :j:j:j.

ETA - just bookmarked the site. Looks like considerably more than two hours of my life will be gone ;)
A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort

    :)

It is Goldie, I am still buzzing from it and am already planning in my head my exit strategy from work. I am going to have to keep it top secret for now though from most of my family, friends and definitely not let anyone know at work:eek:

  • Hi Timmy :) Thank you for your kind words. You are welcome here any time.

I am still struggling not to pay staff to bring me stuff but am using them a lot less. This week I only employed them to fry me some chips. I enjoyed them though and Mr Light and I had lunch for £4.15 between us and we only needed some fruit on the evening as we were both still too full to eat dinner.

I didn't get a water butt in the end but haven't really been watering the plants much apart from a new rose I bought.

He was great and we had the meeting over Skype, which we recorded so can watch back whenever we like. I was at the point of information saturation and was struggling to make a decision regarding investments and long term planning, his straight talking showed me the way although ultimately I had to make my own decision as he does not claim to be a financial adviser.

You might lose a couple of days on the TEA site, he is a bit like a British version of Mr Money Moustache........my first love:cool:

  • I have one more week of holiday left from work and intend to use the time wisely.

I decided to sell the frame tent that I bought earlier in the year which sold yesterday for £130 (£30) profit and I kept some of the camping equipment to use later. I realised once I got a chance to put it up that it was not really suitable for short breaks away as it takes a long time to assemble and put away again. I have also sold a small 2-3 berth tent for £15 boosting the selling total to £277:T Mr Light still has a load of his stuff on £bay which he has high hopes for.

Surveys are chugging along OK with PA at a balance of £23 ish
    £uidco has £57 pending.

I have also downloaded the £uidco ClickSn@p App which has offers in supermarkets for random stuff but you get a decent amount of cashback per item making some of them free. I got 4 x yogurts yesterday for £1.50 with £1.50 cashback. Uploaded my receipt and it has already been confirmed. I won't count this as free money though but will use it instead to reduce my grocery budget. Just hoping that it pays out quickly.

Still waiting for my £30 M&S voucher from the credit card offer, it's been about 6 weeks now:mad:

Expensive day planned as it is DS2's 21st Birthday and we have promised him a Mac laptop. Planning to use the M&S 0% credit card though to spread the cost. Don't worry folks, its in the budget:D

Off to find more stuff to sell, first I need to address the emergency tea bag situation.........could have a ca-tea-strophe on my hands. I'll get me coat.
