In the identified situation the 37 out of 343 rate seems a bit too strict and they shouldn't have closed down the account based on that. But then again maybe it is an all or nothing situation for Amazon? They can hardly say "if you return more items then we'll ban you" because it may infringe on the customer's statutory rights, so maybe they have to either ban or not ban them....

Also, I would be more sympathetic towards Amazon depending on the type of item in question and the likelihood of it being linked to a scam.

It would probably depend on the items.

If the 37 items were all high value, and he only made 100 high value buys that would be a very high return rate for that class/type of item.

Personally I absolutely hate returns, I do my research before buying.
Oddly enough my return rate is probably about 1% with Amazon (out of 100-200 items a year), and always due to either a fault with the item, or the item not meeting the description (for example wrong version of a book).

I suspect Amazon also apply a time period to the returns, so if you suddenly return a load of items in a short period it might count against you more than if the same number had been returned over a longer period.

There is no 10% and banned rule within Amazon. They will look at reasons for returns, if things are arriving with obvious damage by the customer, if the customer is returning the item at all and how often the customer is returning things.

Where there are generous return policies some customers will take the !!!!, I am far happier with Amazon taking action against these customers than changing their return policies.

If you are having to return an excessive amount of items to Amazon or any retailer for that matter surely it would be better to find a retailer that can better meet your needs?

Hi foxtrotoscar, I'm afraid it's going to be a needle in the haystack thing as it was somewhere in the comments posted on a particular website with regards to this latest case of Greg Nelson being banned. Will try to look for it, but cannot guarantee as to whether or not I will find it. Sorry :(
