EXACTLY! Speaks volumes about the lazy slovenly attitudes in this country (from some!) I have travelled extensively over the world, and especially over Asia, the Americas, and Europe, and the British are by far, the laziest, most slovenly of all the nations I have spent time in.

As you say, these people that endorse their slovenly teens lazing in bed til 3.30pm are probably the same type that go to the shops in their pyjamas.

I've got nothing against people having a relaxing day, but I do take issue with people who can't even be bothered to get washed and dressed.

I can see no reason whatsoever for a healthy young person to get up at 3.30pm!

I think the OP is right to flag it up.

Why? What on Earth does it have to do with you?

Oh, what I would give to be able to sleep like I did as a teenager. At 28 weeks pregnant, I can't sleep in past 8-8.30am on the weekends, even though I'm shattered and would absolutely love to!

The occasional duvet day is fine. I did it as a teenager, and even into my early twenties (when I often wouldn't get home until 6am after a night out).

If it becomes a regular occurrence, or they refuse to do things (such as homework, chores, family outings etc), then I'd say it's a red flag that needs addressing.

And yes, some people can't live like that and find it astonishing that others do. But we're all different, and that's a good thing.

How things have certainly changed! - At a year older than the quoted 13 year old, I'd left school at fourteen and working the next day

Rampant Recycler I've been Money Tipped!
I start my maternity leave on Tuesday. I don't plan on getting up until Wednesday at the earliest! :rotfl:

I used to stay in bed until 2-3pm when I was a teen. Didn't do me any harm, it was actually nice to have a long rest!

All the while they've got parents who think it's perfectly ok to slob about in PJs and even turn up at school in their pyjamas , what hope have the kids got :(

I don't understand this British thing about not getting washed and dressed, to be honest. You don't get it much in other countries.

    Don't you ? http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/magazine-23182523

Depends if it's a one-off or something that happens every day. I wouldn't be bringing them meals in bed though, - that's making work for yourself! :rotfl:

    Utter guff.

Just because waking a child/teen at 7am is equivalent to waking an 25+ adult at 5am, doesn't mean they need to sleep in til 3.30am FGS.

The disturbing thing is the amount of people on here that think it's OK.

These people must have too much time on their hands.

Frankly, myself, and my wife, and my 3 children (now 20-30 y.o.) have better things to do with our lives than waste them in bed.

I despair for humanity, I really do. It's really not a very good example to set to children,

**By the way, TBagpuss, did you actually READ your post before you clicked 'SUBMIT?!' I am not one to point out people's spelling and grammar, as I normally think it's a bit rude, but there are a lot of typos in your post. Did you just wake up or something? ;):D :rotfl:

Okay so it's the Easter holidays, would you say it was normal for an otherwise healthy 13 year old to still be in bed at 3:30pm? They've not got up for food (mom dragged it to them) and they're sat in their pjs playing games?

    Xxx

Loads of people slob about in PJs. I don't see the attraction myself, but it's the 'thing to do' apparently!

3.30pm is a bit much, but the child might have been on the internet half the night. Parents often don't bother supervising internet use, unfortunately.

I certainly wouldn't have got away with being in pyjamas all day when I was living in my parents house but we didn't have the internet or other distractions back then :D
