It gives Westminster the ammunition to outright say no to the section 30.
When you're in the minority and on the decline you can whine about them saying no as much as you like. All that has to happen in the short term to defeat the independence movements angle for another referendum is to demonstrate it's against popular opinion and then to block it outright citing the popular opinion against it as the reason for saying no.
Then you'll be in illegal referendum territory which will be shot down in the courts, Holyrood has no constitutional power. Then you'll be in UDI territory, but all of this will be against the backdrop of a Scottish administration doing this against popular opinion. They might end up truly living up to the historic title of national socialists. :rotfl:
No UDI. This will be conducted one way or the other via a perfectly legal vote at the ballot box. If it truly is against popular opinion people are free to vote No as they wish and No will win.
Davidson and May's problem is that they aren't quite so sure of that No vote anymore. So they want to avoid at all costs asking. It all seems so stupid it makes me want to give up.
But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid ?0 -
It just gets better.....General election forces Sturgeon to POSTPONE her bid to force a new independence referendum as a poll finds support for independence has slumped to just 40%

Some 'upside' snuck in while you were all distracted by Mayhem's smoke and mirrors.
Should Scotland be an independent country? (BMG)
Yes 49% (+1)
No 51% (-1)
Slow and steady wins the race...
Keep up Hamish we were talking about the GE :rotfl:0 -

It will be over the horizon soon.
You told us it was imminent............lol.0 -

Whatever you do, don't ask him about Aberdeen House prices.0 -
Marine le Pen has more chance of being elected President than Scotland has of voting for independence.0

Been there, done that. 18 September 2014.Shakethedisease wrote: »..Davidson and May's problem is that they aren't quite so sure of that No vote anymore.
Your problem is that you can't bear to accept that Scotland has already said No.Shakethedisease wrote: »...So they want to avoid at all costs asking.
Already asked and answered.:)0 -
Shakethedisease wrote: »I know what trends are. This poll today is WAY outside of any recent trend or even close to other poll companies on this. You should just be honest and admit it's the case. Also you stated that consistent polling suggests that Scots don't want another referendum. This is wrong reading of the data, it's 50/50 in most when you strip out all the 'do you want one now, in a year or in two years or after Brexit' nonsense.
This is the trend when you strip out the today's outlier which was conducted weeks ago.
May :- Labour will lose council seats. Since it's Labour that currently control most of them. ( again check your facts instead of relying on the Telegraph/the Mail or the Express ).
June :- Rural, borders and more affluent marginals. Tories will gain in vote share, Labour collapse. No idea how those will go.
2021 :- Too early to say. There's likely to be a new UK Labour leader by then. Brexit will have played out too.
You just won't be told will you?
Take a look at the comments section, perhaps reading a more in depth analysis without my name on it might persuade you. Those people are even saying the stats for Yes are worse than the polls returned. Yes is on the decline, that's all there is to say.0 -
She came, she failed, she was defeated. Bye bye Nicola
Tora, Tora, Tora or Tory, Tory, Tory...........:T
Nicola Sturgeon tries to decouple independence from election after polls show Tories taking SNP seats.
The First Minister’s denial came after two polls at the weekend showed a remarkable surge of support for the Scottish Tories, with one putting their rating at 33 per cent, 18 points higher than the general election two years ago.
This would be enough for them to take 12 seats, including 10 from the SNP. Even Angus Robertson, the Nationalists’ Westminster leader, would be in danger of losing his Moray constituency.
