Desperation setting in full steam ahead on the race for independence. But will the ship stay afloat long enough to reach the promised land.

The SS SNP has a hole below the waterline and the the economic pumps may well be overcome by a recession deluge.

But that is OK the captain has been airlifted off to the land of the free so all is supposedly fine!!! Are you kidding!

Nicola stop running around grandstanding and attend to the day job before you drag us all down with the ship!

I'm not really sure what point you're trying to make here. But the Scottish Parliament is in recess ie on holiday for Easter. No one is doing the day job right now.

Nicola Sturgeon in NY for Tartan week is no more than Jack McConnell did when he was First Minister... only far less cringey.

It all seems so stupid it makes me want to give up.
But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid ?

Sturgeon has clearly said she wants Scotland to be at the heart of Europe, and that single market access to the EU is a deal breaker.

How does an union with Canada further those aims?

But...if you're really set on Canada, I can offer a few very nice properties in Western Canada which will be coming to market real soon :D

"But let's think about the EU. What if, after Brexit, Scotland applied to rejoin, not as a nation of 5.3 million, but as part of a country of 41.8 million. Obviously, it would have more clout. For Canadians, Scotland would establish a foothold in multicultural Europe."

What if I set up a farm that bred unicorns? Would people buy them?

Since the unicorn is the national animal of Scotland in heraldic terms then probably.

Fine if she wants to go to NY and sell Scotland as a place for trade and investment. But she should remember she is there at the expense of the Scottish people.

Selling the SNPs fetish about independence is not in her remit.

She should get back to the day job or if parliament isn't sitting go and deal with her neglected constituency.

    Exactly so.

Scottish economic output contracted by 0.2% in the final quarter of last year, according to official figures.
The fall contrasted with growth of 0.7% for the UK as a whole.
Scottish government statisticians found output was flat in the service sector - and down in production and construction, by 0.9% and 0.8% respectively.
Scottish GDP grew by 0.4% over the calendar year - compared with growth of 1.8% for the UK as a whole
I guess that's what happens when you neglect the day job whilst creating massive uncertainty for business.

(Thanks to Rinoa for the original)
Now please tell us what Nicola is doing to remedy the above?
    Specifically?

Why don't you ? You know by now what powers the Scottish Govt has and doesn't have. So why don't you lay it on the line what you would do. I'll wait..
Whenever unionists analyse Scotland as part of the UK, they use a trick - they compare a nation to a region. They take Scotland out not as a national economy (we don't have a national economy with national monetary and macroeconomic policies) but as a region. To be meaningful, that comparator should only be made with other regions of the UK.

But that's not what they do. Rather they merge and then average all the other parts of the UK. Or rather, they take a nation state with full monetary and macroeconomic powers and a powerful international capital city, subtract one region and then compare the region to the nation-minus-one-region.

But again, there are only two regions in the UK that really outpace Scotland on productivity and that's London and the south-east. It's not something fundamental about the Scots.

Just have glance for yourself – these are monetary powers and Scotland has absolutely none of them. And these are fiscal powers and Scotland has a very limited range of them (we can raise income tax and borrow a minuscule amount – that's it).

(Oh and incidentally, we have virtually no regulatory powers, no trade powers, no immigration powers and no employment powers. And next to no social security powers and we've had no seat at the table in the setting of EU economic policies.)
So, oh wise unionists, do what exactly?

So I'll wait MSJock and see what you think Nicola should do with the powers she has given you are so adamant that the powers are there to avert this 'recession'. Am all ears too. But also bear in mind that the Scottish Govt was never designed and set up to have much or indeed any effect on the Scottish economy whatsoever.
