But boring echo chambers like Wings and other pro indy places aren't my thing. I like seeing both sides of the coin, even if not convinced by one and I actually like chatting and bantering with you and others on here. We're not going to change the world.
Oil though, lets not got there. Forget I mentioned it.
It's one thing knowing the oil is there and another thing altogether extracting it economically. Isn't that the problem an independent Scotland would have? It isn't the $120 a barrel of Salmond's fevered imagination.0 -

The North Sea is one of the most expensive areas in the World to extract oil from, but extraction costs have been falling rapidly as a combination of technological advances and cost cutting drives since the oil crash have paid off.average unit operating expenses in the basin have almost halved in the past two years, from $29.70 a barrel to $15.30,
We are now seeing modest increases in exploration and production accordingly as confidence returns on the back of lower production costs. Still a long way to go right enough - but it's not as dire as was made out a few years ago.“The great enemy of the truth is very often not the lie – deliberate, contrived, and dishonest – but the myth, persistent, persuasive, and unrealistic.
Belief in myths allows the comfort of opinion without the discomfort of thought.”

This is your economic future in handy map form.

Some of us make money from dealings with growth areas outside Europe. The power shift is continuing, like it or not. Wealthy people in places like China; India; Qatar (in the news) are continuing to buy key assets in UK and elsewhere.0 -

Isn't it their turn to have an independence referendum?
I mean independence not just from UK but from Scotland too
In fact, we should just nominate a month next year, when any old bit of the UK can hold a non-binding referendum on independence. We might as well. There's no point getting hung up on the SNP. I'm sure Londoners might fancy a voice on independence.0 -

What a good idea.
And now that the SNP is hell bent on setting a precedent, we need not worry if the people there actually want a referendum. We could select the place by popular demand and run a media Troll-in with a poll of shortlisted referendum nominations.
I nominate Manchester United.Union, not Disunion
I have a Right Wing and a Left Wing.

Socialism not delivering for Scotland;
Scotland’s economic growth a third of UK level.
New figures show Scottish onshore GDP in the third quarter of last year grew 0.2 per cent while equivalent UK growth was 0.6 per cent. Compared with the same period of 2015, Scottish GDP was up only 0.7 per cent, against the UK-wide figure of 2.2 per cent.
“The latest Scottish GDP figures are grim,” said economist John McLaren. “This continues the longer term sluggish performance of the Scottish economy over the last three years relative to the UK.”Mr McLaren said that growth appeared “even worse” measured on an “active economy” index of GDP that strips out hard-to-measure or erratic sectors.

I think it was Michael Portillo who suggested that for a newly independent Scotland to succeed and compete with the rUK it will have to be an Irish celtic-tiger type economy. Which considering the SNP have dined out on its supposed core socialist/progressive principles it would involve a major about-face. I'm not sure the thousands of new ex-Labour SNP voters would be happy with that. Its easy to be progressive with other peoples money!“Britain- A friend to all, beholden to none”. 🇬🇧0
