I am getting more and more convinced that you must be a unionist troll.:rotfl:
Your posts bore me a bit if I'm going to be honest, there's never any real debate on Scottish issues to be had. Just posts that seem to take real and a little angry exception to another person's point of view.

Never mind. Par for the course on large forums I suppose. Moving on..
It all seems so stupid it makes me want to give up.
But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid ?

One thing is for sure regardless what you call the Conservative Party back in the 50s they were getting votes, whereas the SNP weren't and with a bit of luck we will return to that position in the very near future.

Not likely. Not with a referendum just round the corner and what with Ruth Davidson not having much in the way of policies apart from stopping one. Is going to be difficult with only the above going for them.

They represented and courted votes in the Scottish central belt from Protestant voters on broadly sectarian grounds

Ah well nothing has changed then has it. The nats now court republicans with a Catholic background.

I'm confused shakey. What happened to wait and see?
I thought that autumn 2018 was the time for the referendum, but that seems to be shifting to pretty soon instead.

Is this actually a sign that Nicola has the proverbial balls to actually do something? Or is it just other people backing her into a corner that she doesn't really want to be in.

Swings and roundabouts I guess. Go now when there's a decent level of public support but no actual answers, or wait until you've got some answers but public support has been eroded.
  • "The British government is confident it can seal a good divorce deal with the European Union which will win over the people of Scotland but may never please its pro-independence ruling party, Scottish minister David Mundell said."
The Scottish minister doubted whether any agreement with European Union would be welcomed by Sturgeon's party.
"Will we be able to please the SNP in this process? No. I can absolutely, categorically guarantee that," he said. "But will we be able to satisfy Scottish public opinion? Yes, by getting a good deal ...The SNP will have to accept that."

A pretty accurate summary so far IMHO.
Queue much spluttering indignation from pro-SNP acolytes who will now try to tell us otherwise......
    (Wait for it.)

Sturgeon twitches, Shakey jumps - that's the answer. The forecasts have oscillated between now and later.

I am of the opinion of your last paragraph; I mentioned a while ago when Sturgeon initiated the Neverendum Preparation Mode that she had put herself in a loose/loose situation for the reasons you gave. On balance from a Union perspective, I'd prefer the SNP dither approach but "calling a referendum" as soon as Article 50 is enacted or even during the negotiations would at least give a chance to go for the SNP's jugular.

Interesting data on political party funding:

For a party supposedly having so much support and with Indy-ref 2 coming up, you'd think the SNP would have more donors.
If I don't reply to your post,
you're probably on my ignore list.

    Allow me to unconfuse you.

Scotland/the votting public are still in wait and see mode regarding the effects of brexit.

The SNP/Greens will call another referendum and the date will be nearer the end of Brexit talks when Scotland will no longer be in wait and see mode, yet still before rUK leaves the EU. I hope this clears up the confusion for you, which seems to keep confusing the SNP/Greens as political parties with a majority in Holyrood...and the Scottish electorate as a whole.

Scotland's voters are in wait and see mode regarding Brexit. Article 50 hasn't been triggered yet. No referendum will be called, much less a date named until it is. And it's a timing scenario which is fully supported by most pro indy entities and people I know of. Autumn 2018 is looking the most likely in terms of timing at the moment, there's no rush. And even though I'll vote Yes, I and millions of others have still to hear the EU's take on Brexit and how the negotiating will go. In all the May/Sturgeon back and forths we keep forgetting about the EU who've yet to have their official say in the matter.
It all seems so stupid it makes me want to give up.

They have a lot of members paying monthly to be fair, as a proportion of Scotland. Plus in preparation for another referendum money has been flowing elsewhere via crowdfunding ( Wings netted 80k+ in 24 hours yesterday in a month long appeal ). If the SNP put out an appeal, I daresay it would be just as if not more effective than even Wings crowdfunders currently are. But they haven't so who knows.

Be fair, they are practising being skint for the Rainbow at the end of the tunnel.

Perhaps if they did more work on the day job they would get more money.
