Nicola is adamant that Scottish voters views on Brexit must be respected. But will she respect their views on holding another referendum?

    Doubtful.

    http://www.dailymail.co.uk/wires/pa/article-4168644/Majority-Scots-against-second-independence-vote-near-future-Poll.html?ITO=1490&ns_mchannel=rss&ns_campaign=1490

Well she will respect it for the rest of 2017. And polls change, near future being the key 'carefully worded' language in the above.

There won't be one in the very near future. Autumn 2018 looking more like it, by that time when Brexit kicks into gear 75% of Scots might be gagging for one who knows. So is unlikely this particular poll will have much bearing on dictating future events. Nice solid Yes support still there though, good to see.

Is a recurring comfort blanket this one. Trying to stop a second indy ref taking place at all for fear of the result. But if a vote is called by the Scottish Govt, we're all off the polls regardless. Bear this in mind.

But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid ?
  • So she would defy the views of the majority of the UK, for the sake of a tiny region of the UK. That is like saying my two year old son does not like baked beans so they have to stop selling them to anyone. In a democracy the majority rules. OK, she would prefer a dictatorship but that is not what she will get at the next election.

I know she is aiming to make herself unpopular with the rest of the UK, but surely even she must see that the majority voted for brexit, she would be very unhappy if Scotland wanted out but Cornwall stamped their feet and said no and that stopped it.

I just wish she would get on and have her referendum. I also think she should give the rest of the UK a vote too, after all It affects the whole of the UK, but then she would end up with an independant Scotland and a whole lot of problems, including being out of the EU as soon as they are independant rather than when the UK leaves.

I really hate to break this to you. But Sturgeon doesn't give a hoot about what the rUK think about her. Her first and foremost priority is with those that vote in Scotland. What with being the First Minister of Scotland and all.. it's kind of self explanatory.

I often wish there was somewhere online where only Scottish residents/voters could go and discuss this sort of thing to get a clear idea of views and concerns from all Scottish aspects. Yes, No, Remain, Leave, unsure. But even the Herald, the Scotsman, all Scottish based political facebook pages are now over run with ( while valid if uninformed ) posts like yours from people who will have no input nor say in any Scottish vote. While those that do post are outnumbered 10 to 1 and soon ( if not thick skinned like myself ) give up contributing at all. A real shame.

Anyway. The First Minister of Scotland has a duty to respect the wishes and votes of the people of Scotland. She's put options on the table which would mean Scotland staying both in the EU/Single Market and in the UK. If they're dismissed then quite frankly Scottish voters will need the opportunity to choose which is the most important to them whatever that might be.

I also don't understand why you and Westminster are so hell bent on the notion Scotland must leave the Single Market along with rUK when the voters there obviously do not want to. Nor do NI or Wales come to that. Why do you want Scotland to leave the Single Market ? Does it make you feel better about the Brexit vote ? Someone to hold your hand as you jump ?

It was a UK wide referendum. The regional results do not matter, never did. Only those with an axe to grind continually refer to regional results.

What stage do you think the negotiations will be at by then?

Do you want the negotiations to succeed in giving the UK some SM access? Or would you rather they failed, damaging the economies of both the UK and EU?

Surely the former would be disastrous for the SNP agenda?

But Sturgeon doesn't give a hoot about what the rUK think about her.

Why doesn't she give the electorate an opportunity to express their views fully. Rather than interpret the results as she thinks fit.

I guess, given you 100% support Nicola's exclusive concern for the people of scotland at whatever harm to the other people of this sovereign state, you also give 100% support for Thump's exclusive concern for the people of america?

perhaps we could conclude that Thumps moral compass, comes exclusively from his mother's side.

Those with jobs and businesses which depend on Single Market access have a little bit more on the line than 'an axe to grind'.

While it suits you and others here to keep bumping your gums about UK wide referendums and how they apply. The real choice is clear between single market access outwith the UK or no single market access within.

I think you'll also find that there are both Labour and Conservative based rebellions on the cards based on the Single Market issue too.
Am afraid Theresa May's vision of Brexit, isn't the same as others were looking for. In Sturgeon's case she genuinely believes that leaving the Single Market will have catastrophic consequences on both the Scottish and the UK economy well beyond what independence would mean from rUK with both Scotland/rUK still within it.

Sturgeon would rather both Scotland and rUK were in the Single Market given how intertwined the economy's are when independence occurs. But here we all are, far sooner than anyone anticipated.
