Salmond just confirmed tonight more or less what everyone else is thinking. Incidentally, everyone thought he was bluffing too in 2011.

why not now ?
the voters won't obey the leader0 -
Scotland will be worse off in the UK and out of Europe, than it will be out of the UK and in Europe.
The window to announce that they will stay in Europe will close when the UK leaves so Theresa May isn't leaving them with any option other than a 2018 referendum and a probable Yes vote. They'll pick up all the Yes votes they did last time, plus all the votes from people who can see the writing on the wall.
The SNP will win and the EU will be tickled pink.
It isn't Sturgeon who is playing a dangerous game of brinkmanship - its the chaotic thoughtless political spasming of the Tories who appear good for only bringing us lurching from one calamity to the next.0 -

the people of the uk voted to leave the EU
obviously, you wouldn't have given them that choice, but then you wouldn't have allowed voting on any subject either0 -

Prove it, because I can easily prove you're wrong.0 -

Well I will start the ball rolling at picking apart your absurd statement. Tricky can then pick up the ball.0 -

Shows how very little you know about people who live up here!
In the cold light of day, many YES voters came to their senses and realised what a disastrous bullet they had dodged, (particularly when they saw the oil price crumble).
Evidence subsequent QT episodes from Scottish venues, (Dundee and Stirling come to mind...You Tube is your friend here), where SNP representatives were taken to task over the spin they had put on the fiscal robustness of their proposed independant economy.
Also evidence the testimony of pro-indy poster "elantan" a few pages ago where she describes meeting a "lifelong indy supporter" who is now a NO voter. Believe me this is not uncommon.
In the very outside chance of a 2nd referendum; given that it's not up to Ms Sturgeon if one happens, I'd be very surprised if the YES vote got anywhere near the 45% they got last time.
Contrary to the people who live in their confirmation bias, political bubble, Scots just don't care all that much about staying in the EU.
Most do care very much about staying in the UK though.
It's all irrelevant anyway.....due to having that one off, binding referendum in 2014....:)0 -

You think trade will just stop, just like that ? Overnight ? I think that's just as absurd. I read the Brexit thread here too and much of what is spoken about EU/UK trade is full of optimism, free trade deals, tariff free and how opportunities abound. I should lift and copy them over here every time this guff about Scotland / rUK will go if there's independence.
Let's face it, the trade meme and trying desperately to stop a referendum happening at all is the only thing you've really got left.
However, as the counter side to trade between iScotland/rUK. Here's what Scots think about Brexit.38% of those who voted No at the last Indyref think we'll be much worse off after Brexit. I'd say that's significantProbably the most important finding is a decisive 51% to 29% majority in favour of the Scottish Government's proposals for Scotland remaining in the single market being taken seriously by the UK government and raised in negotiations with the EU.
By a margin of 49% to 23%, respondents feel the Scottish Parliament should be consulted before Article 50 is triggered.
Was well past time these questions were asked. It all seems so stupid it makes me want to give up.
But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid ?0 -
Just so I am clear.
Is the proposal from SNP that the "UK" entity be redefined to just those countries which voted to remain in the EU. This would presumably be Scotland and NI then?
The EU clearly has arrangements with a member called the "UK" but I would guess it doesn't preclude parts of this entity leaving.0 -

What if the UK government uses this possibility to try and force negotiations with the EU to reach a conclusion before autumn 2018?
The threat of a Scottish indy referendum could work to our advantage in getting an early deal.
Personally, I think there is a strong chance of an interim leaving deal being agreed, with a longer term deal sat in negotiations.0 -
of course, if nicola stopped dithering and go for a vanity Iscotland referendum, that would mean that our brexit team neednot bother to fight for scottish interests - save a lot of time and trouble for our brexit team0
