I have just looked up the list of sovereign nations and cannot find Scotland on it.

So, Scotland independently holding a referendum on UK membership would be the same as Hampshire holding the same referendum and just as toothless.
Precisely. :beer:0 -
why is it too soon?
too soon for what?
what variables are you talking about?
do you want independence or not :
why does brexit matter to you?
basically you know that the scots don't want indepence but you hope that they can be tricked by a bit of good timing: pathetic
no integrity, no political courage , no honesty.
You have already pointed out one variable previously; the issue of which currency.
The only firm comment on this came from faux-SNP-supporter Hamish who said it would be the Euro ultimately.
It has to be the Euro if Scotland is to be at the "heart of Europe".0 -
No I wrote boring SNP, not Scotland. Are you still equating the SNP with Scotland. They are different. Such confusion may go down well in the thistled collective.
The SNP offer just an unatainable (in the short/medium term)EU membership, but if pushed might be persuaded to offer something else. Already an admission that their Plan A is flakey.
Your remarks on granting/not granting a referendum are false. We all belong to 1 country, the UK. This was agreed also by the Scots a couple of years ago. We all should respect the constitution of our country. If the SNP can't do that it deserves no respect itself.
As for the rest, nothing new therethere, still the same boring hate tactic. Westminster, Tories, English. We know you hate them all.
The Scottish people voted both to remain in the UK and the EU/Single Market. They cannot have both. A new vote will have to take place to solve the issue. And a new vote there will definitely be before Scotland leaves the Single market at the very least.
This is not equating Scotland with the SNP. This is equating what the Scottish public actually want. We already know what English and Welsh voters want. Is still unclear in Scotland in NI. What exactly is your problem with finding out and settling the matter ?
Should the Scottish govt wish to enter into a conversation about what the Scottish people want via a vote. Then as I've shown, there is no legal means to stop them doing so. No court in the land would ever argue nor block the rights of the Scottish govt to enter into a conversation with it's own constituents.
The UK has no constitution. It all seems so stupid it makes me want to give up.
But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid ?0 -

The UK has no constitution.
so why don't the SNP ask the people of scotland now whether they wish to leave the UK (advisory of course)
I can promise you the english won't send troops if you do.0 -
The Scottish NHS is in crisis.
Police Scotland is in crisis.
Scottish Fire and Rescue Service is in Crisis.
Scottish Education is in crisis.
And Nero Sturgeon keeps on playing the same IndyRef tune on her fiddle.0 -

I think the point might be to become a sovereign nation again via a vote ( before Brexit concludes ). Which is what those seeking independence generally do at some point. How would they ever become independent and sovereign nations otherwise ?
Independence isn't a new concept you know. Lots of countries have gone this route and their votes certainly weren't 'toothless'. It just comforts you to think so and to cling on to the false security of thinking Scotland holds a unique place in the world. The only country in the world where votes and referendums don't matter.
Scotland isn't Hampshire. Hampshire didn't sign a treaty in 1707.It all seems so stupid it makes me want to give up.

They will. But at a time which suits the majority parties in Holyrood, not Westminster. It all seems so stupid it makes me want to give up.

Yes the UK does have a constitution, it's largely unwritten.
I see that a separate deal for Scotland has been ruled out (again).

We have known this for ages as, indeed, have the SNP. Yet they have peddled and are still peddelling, the known falsehood that it is possible, another nugget of deceit in their Fakery, decieving the Scots for the sole aim of feeding their obsessionUnion, not Disunion
I have a Right Wing and a Left Wing.
It's the only way to fly straight.0
