I wonder how happy Scots would be to adopt the Euro. There isn't really an alternative for a new nation 'at the heart of Europe'.

To adopt the Euro economic criteria has to be met first.

    Not in Shakey's world.

In this alternate reality a Shakey-type sits down with an Euro-Shakey-type; they exchange a few tweets; point to a few blogs saying nice things about each other; and Bobski's your uncle - job done :)

Best not to then. Currently, 8 EU countries don't, by fair means or foul.

Or better still, give the money-grabbing EU the body-swerve and join EFTA.

But with one exception they did. Still have to demonstrate that they are taking the right measures to address the issues.

    Hence EFTA beckons more alluringly.;)

  • If Scotland voted to leave the UK it would take them longer than 2 years to leave, they would not want to lose their subsidy overnight, and a currency would have to be set up etc etc.
Nonsensical. The instant Barnett stops and Scots stop sending their taxes to Westminster, is independence.
If Scotland chose to become independent whilst the UK is part of the EU then they would also be choosing to leave the EU (the EU stated this before the previous independence referendum). If they are still part of the UK when we leave then they will also be leaving.
If they aren't part of the UK when the UK leaves, then they might not be leaving. You don't know.
Sturgeon has not been given any other answer within the EU.
No one has. May still has to confirm the UK is leaving.
Scotland is merely a region of the UK for these purposes, as such they will be leaving the EU one way or another. Whether they choose to attempt to join is up to them, but they would be loosing an awful lot in doing so, including the massive amount of trade they do with their nearest neighbour (swapping it for a tiny amount of trade with more distant ones), and the opportunity to trade with the rest of the world on a more friendly platform. They would also be losing their identity, their fishing waters, and most of their net income. IF they are as rich as they say even after losing the massive subsidy then they would be net contributors, and it probably wont be long before they are no longer allowed to fly the Scottish flag or call themselves Scottish. And all that would be for nothing because the EU is going to implode before too long if they do not reform.

Couldn't be bothered with the rest. It's straight out of the Daily Express handbook of stock phrases.

I didn't realise that the art of politics was to bully people and make them look stupid. As was said a while back by senior European officials. Scotland doesn't have the competence to negotiate. Seems as if they were right.
Bully them ? They demanded then voted for this. Again someone who's complete lack of knowledge when it comes to Scottish politics and recent events trips them up completely and think throwing words like 'bullying' around makes it all ok.

Scottish Labour and Lib Dems voted unanimously for Sturgeon/the Scottish Govt to go EU talking and exploring all options available. Both parties are now trying to backtrack as it becomes more and more obvious that their preferred option.. which is a Scotland which remains both in the EU and the UK.. isn't going to happen.

Now ? Sturgeon has done all the heavy lifting for them AND will take the blame and flak from the uninformed like yourself, Tricky and throughout the UK media for presenting proposals which Scottish Labour and the Lib Dems voted for and were desperately hoping for instead of another referendum.

Their hopes are fading fast now, and they're looking like prize idiots with all the back pedalling and 'repositioning' going on. Rennie in particular is a complete joke ranting against a second referendum in Scotland for being devisive, but 100% gung ho for a second Brexit one.
An overwhelming majority of MSPs last night backed the First Minister’s efforts ahead of her meetings with European Parliament president Martin Schulz and Guy Verhofstadt, the former Belgium prime minister who leads the Liberal Group at !Brussels.

Labour, the Liberal Democrats and Greens backed her motion asking for a mandate for talks with the UK government, other devolved administrations, EU institutions and member states, which was passed by 92 votes to zero. The Conservatives abstained after their attempt to amend it failed.

May says No to Sturgeon. Then she's backing Scottish Labour and the Lib Dems into some very hard choices over the coming months. Namely either to support another independence ref, or to try and sell a right wing Tory led UK out of the EU to Scottish voters. Scottish Labour in particular are going to have an extremely difficult time with that. Personally I'm looking forward to seeing them trying it lol. :rotfl:

    Barnett stops, the union stops.

The poster Enterprise was trying to say that Barnett would stop 'overnight' but that Scotland wouldn't be able to leave the UK for 'years'. Which you must recognise, is complete nonsense and fantasy stuff.
