This interesting too and today's debate should be good - will Ruth Davidson continue to back staying in the single market, or follow the 'the UK voted to leave, and we will all leave together' line

Given that remaining in the single market is clearly favoured by a majority of Scottish people, and that any intelligent person can see that, sans immigration, it's also clearly favoured by a majority of English people, I can't imagine she's going to start calling for hard Brexit.

I would say in 2014 maybe the majority of Scots wanted to stay in the UK ... I'm not so sure I would say that now ...

Interesting series on Brexit in the Herald today

other links should be easy to find from there.

Good to see some thoughts being given to ways we can move forward, and proper debate on the issues.

Seems she went for the Hard Brexit option after all.

But at least todays debate smoked the Scottish Lib Dems and Scottish Labour out in completely confusing and unsustainable positions on the Single market. Lib Dems are now not in favour of Single Market membership... well until you reach the border where rUK Lib Dem MP's are insistent a second referendum be called to make sure of it (?!).

And Scottish Labour after months of supporting SM membership, thundering about jobs and prosperity depending on it. Kezia Dugdale tweets galore assuring 100% support... Abstained. (??!!).:rotfl:It was passed anyway.

Both parties will pay dearly for that in the coming months.
Graeme Cowie ‏@woodstockjag Lib Dem MSPs vote against a motion that calls for the UK to protect Scotland's place in the single market. That's my resignation vindicated.
Neither has a coherent position and they're going to need one. ( tweets below summarised).

This may be valuable reading for the weeks ahead, if you are interested in Scottish politics - The EFTA Convention: http://www.efta.int/sites/default/files/documents/legal-texts/efta-convention

A member of the First Minister's Brexit advisory group lauding the EFTA in today's Times + Scot Gov official briefing BBC on it also.

A Scottish Government official also briefed @faisalislam on EFTA when the FM was in Downing St.

The FM has already said her Brexit proposals (delivered next month) will include devolving intl deals + immigration - both needed for Flexit

And both, I assume, unpalatable to No. 10. If FM's red line (her #SNP16 speech) is hard brexit then on that basis we are heading to indyref2

It all seems so stupid it makes me want to give up.
But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid ?

Well one wouldn't want to do anything to encourage independence based thoughts now would we ? ;) That's the common theme now running across the other political parties ( not SNP/Greens obviously) and the Scottish media. They're so totally terrified of another referendum they're all tip toeing on eggshells. The media giving Davidson, Dugdale and Rennie free passes, and Scottish Labour and Lib Dems even voting against their own core principles for fear of it.

Tim Farron's timeline is err interesting. The Scottish contingent have done some real damage to his loud and proud Pro-EU claims tonight.

Scottish lib dems just voted no to single market ?
Hi Tim. Does this no longer apply to the Scottish Lib Dems ?
@timfarron @LibDems Why did Scottish lib dems vote against single market tonight ?
you're joking - your lot just voted against Scotland remaining in single market
eh maybe check your colleagues in Scotland!!! Pro-European my a**

The author of this priceless nugget isn't even planning to stay in Scotland for very much longer, never mind the UK!!

So committed to her "nation",she's flying off to the sun permenently and leaving everyone else to suck up the consequences.

    Gee thanks :rotfl:
