Add that to the rhetoric about how bad things like the NHS down south are doing along with grammar schools etc ... not to mention the increase in xenophobic behaviour that appears to have gripped some parts of England and Wales ... and you've got a lot for people of Scotland to decide if they want to remain a part of
Sorry but can we deconstruct these narratives now.
Scotland has xenophobic interests also, particularly against the English. It even has a name - anglophobia.
The NHS in Scotland is given much more money per head than the NHS in England, and there's not really a massive difference, just some tit for tat political point scoring in the media. Becoming independent may well ruin your NHS for good as the economics don't stack up, so why is this used as an argument for independence when you'll be putting this institution in jeopardy by becoming independent? That's incorrect thinking, boasting about a UK institution, with additional funding in Scotland because you're part of the UK.
There's nothing wrong with the grammar school idea if entry is based on ability to achieve rather than ability to pay, which is the proposal. The current comprehensive system is biased towards who can afford to live next to the best schools. I see nothing controversial in giving the brightest students the best possible start. Life is not a one size fits all central planning utopia, as much as the left would like it to be.0 -
I do expect the SNP to loose seats anyway ... I think having 56 seats out of 59 rather ambitious to keep a hold of, I don't think it would mean the appetite for indy has lessened if it did drop either
Quite frankly I try my best not to talk in RL about politics as I'm scunnered with a lot of it, from all sides, but somehow it seems to be in the forefront of a lot of minds ... the Yoons appear scared as they are getting rather loud in their shouting about the once in a generation rubbish ... and whilst I know some people that have moved from yes to no I know many more that have went from no to yes,
I just fancy no more voting for a few years as it gets exhausting listening to utter rubbish then having to correct people about simple things
And that's not to say I know it all, it's just a recognition some people know much much less than I do but like to pretend they know more0 -
I accept there is xenophobia in Scotland and haven't stated otherwise , xenophobia down south though has been recorded as being on the increase since Brexit where as in Scotland it has lowered
The NHS down south is being privatised fast, changes are happening at a scary rate, today alone there was discussions around the closing of A&E departments, incidentally I fully recognise that the figures regularly released do not tell the whole picture.
Grammar schools is another way of separating children, a way of ensuring some get more than others, which is up to the people living in the country that's implementing it to either stop it or accept it not my place ... but it isn't something that is wanted by the majority here0 -
Exactly in opposition and yet not respected or heard, dismissed like a naughty school child and sent to bed without any supper
And yep I do believe if people are watching their representativesite being treated as rubbish constantly then eventually they will decide no more
Or are u suggesting we just accept it? Would u accept it ?
You're not answering the question I asked to try to crystalise this argument in your mind.
Assuming indy2 fails, would you continue to vote for SNP MP's given your professed hatred for the Conservatives?
If the answer is no, then you can clearly see the argument that Scotland hates the Conservatives is an unsound argument, since a vote for SNP MP's is a vote for Conservative government.
If the answer is yes, then everyone on the forum will be clear that you're a died in the wool nationalist and it doesn't matter who governs you as long as Scotland eventually becomes independent. Which is a form of populism that the left currently profess to hate. Interesting.0 -
All children should be given the best possible start in life no matter ability0
-
I didn't vote SNP in the GE ... but I think many would continue to vote SNP as they are at least seen to be doing their best for Scotland unlike Labour who up here are basically Tories0
-
Anyway ... would u accept being disrespected and constantly outvoted on things to do with your country ? Or would u want a change ?
Or are you a dyed in the wool nationalist that doesnt matter who rules your Britania as long as it's Britania so forget what others want and u will accept it ?0 -

Separating children isn't a bad thing.
We separate children in the current school system, streaming, high dependency, disability, language, religion. It's not wrong to do it. It's a choice, if the parents of a child would like to take part in a meritocratic system I see no problem with allowing them that opportunity. I wouldn't claim to speak for any group of people on this matter, but I would say that I don't think I'm coming at it from an irrational viewpoint.
The NHS isn't being privatised. Change in the NHS is always occurring, and as a form of welfare it does need to change and keep pace with society whilst delivering value for money. We have outdated provision for services, our town has a minor injuries unit that is only used by the inhabitants of the town. We have 3 A&E units in major cities within 15 minutes of our town. We should only need emergency response and ambulances, we've no need for a minor injuries unit and I'm glad it's been decided to close it since it's a drain on resources that could be better spent saving lives rather than making peoples journeys easier.
Scottish anglophobia has been on the rise for some time. You need only look at the pro-indy blogs, facebook pages and comment sections in the media to see it. I would argue that Scottish anglophobia is far more out of control than English or Welsh xenophobia in terms of the rhetoric per capita. I'll try to find some statistics on that.0 -

I would change my vote accordingly.
For example if I were a Scot who despised Conservative government I would vote Labour, it's the sensible option. Since voting for the SNP I may as well cast my vote for the Conservatives.
The enemy of my enemy is my friend.
It's pragmatic, wasting the vote and then complaining about the Conservative government is a flawed position to take.0 -
You could argue that ... I suggest whilst doing so you also look at the rise of Scotphobia that seems to be on a huge increase also0
