heh heh....The first thing to note is that independence is now categorically and unequivocally off the table for at least half a decade.
The failure of the SNP to secure a Holyrood majority last night (for the want of less than 500 votes) combined with the Greens’ weasel-worded opposition to a second referendum – and make no mistake, opposition is what it is – will ensure that even if the rUK votes to leave the EU and Scotland votes overwhelmingly to stay in, there will be no indyref before the next Holyrood election in 2021.“The great enemy of the truth is very often not the lie – deliberate, contrived, and dishonest – but the myth, persistent, persuasive, and unrealistic.

Sturgeon crushed.
Independence over.
Scotland will now break up into arguing internecine factions and there will never be enough electoral support again to justify another referendum.
The only way the SNP will stay in power is if they shelve their nationalist plans.
As a Labour supporter I have to admit this wasn't a great showing, although the SNP are now showing themselves to be vulnerable.0 -
Wow that was some night last night ... brilliant result for the people of Scotland
Still a SNP government ( all be it a minority one) with Green at 6 so 69 Yes seats ( 49% of the vote ... need to get it higher for next indy ref)
Labour destroyed and the Tories will be dragging the SNP back to the centre from their left wing stance
The SNP have 5 years to prove once again they can run a country for the good of all, and get us ready for when we get independence ... but they had their sails deflated a wee bit which I think they needed ...
I'm delighted with the verdict I must say0 -

Aye the Rev is quite angry today ... we had words through the night ... I'm sure he will calm down eventually and realise it's not over ...
It is a good job he isn't in government though ... isn't it ?
Edited to add: it appears I irritated the Rev today, he has chosen to block me ... Oh well such a shame :-)0 -
Turn out 55% wonder if the postal votes skewed that a bit they were sitting at 65% ... which I thought too high
Some places were sitting at 12% at 7pm and 30% at 6pm ... that did concern me0 -

What if an SNP government with sufficiently devolved powers looking after Scotland and a Conservative majority looking after the UK result in a great situation for Scotland. Would you still want independence? Would you take a worse situation for all Scots so that you can be free of Westminster?0 -
Yes I would still want independence as I believe we can do better making our own decisions as we are the ones that have to live with the consequences ... we are intelligent enough and have proven many times more than capable enough so a parliament of which we are only 10% represented will never look after us as good as we can ever look after ourselves
Just like I believe all countries should be0 -
Some interesting analysis going around today.
Seems the bloggers and tweeters have finally realised the real swing in Scottish politics was not to the left at all... That's just Labour, the Greens and the SNP fighting over the same minority of people... The real change was the centrist and middle class voters ensuring another SNP majority (and hence indyref2) didn't happen. There were hints of the long-awaited Tory surge but nothing definitive. Like in the indyref, the middle classes just shut up, plot in silence and decapitate adroitly.“The great enemy of the truth is very often not the lie – deliberate, contrived, and dishonest – but the myth, persistent, persuasive, and unrealistic.
Belief in myths allows the comfort of opinion without the discomfort of thought.”
