what's your view on immigration ?0 -
Nobody is targeting migrants themselves, they are targeting UK employers that once upon a time had deep contacts with local schools and colleges and training schemes to provide their future work needs, but then stopped acting responsibly and instead turned to ready trained cheapish migrant flows.
We all surely want a more cohesive happier society and getting back to responsible business norms has a role to play in all this.
Anyone framing themselves as being compassionate needs to think things through carefully - is it compassionate for us not to train existing Brits (black, brown white)? Is it compassionate for us fortunate Brits to celebrate the denudation of vital medical personnel from poor countries?
We need more intelligent national conversations. Overt 'look at me waving a welcome refugees flag' virtue signalling is profoundly unintelligent and shallow, almost always a short-cut to boosting ones compassion credentials and societal status0 -

UK unemployment is now at 4.7%, below the historical average, and wages rose by 2% above inflation last year.
It is crystal clear to all but the most biased of observers that the UK economy is creating jobs faster than they can be filled by the UK native born.
And by making a speech which was substantively similar to Chapter 2 of Mein Kampf Amber Rudd has crossed a line - albeit given her rather questionable qualifications a line I suspect she had no idea she was crossing at the time - but proving yet again the dangers of politicians getting sucked into nationalist fervour and populist claptrap. We need more intelligent national conversations.
We need an end to the dog whistle politics which give excuses to justify so many people's racism, xenophobia and bigotry.Overt 'look at me' virtue signalling is profoundly unintelligent and shallow
And yet you've managed to make an entire post full of it.“The great enemy of the truth is very often not the lie – deliberate, contrived, and dishonest – but the myth, persistent, persuasive, and unrealistic.
Belief in myths allows the comfort of opinion without the discomfort of thought.”

Many EU countries keep far more detailed records on other EU nationals than we do, often requiring them to carry residency papers/passports at all times.

Yes, and here in Spain by law one, inclusive of holiday makers, has to carry a passport around at all times, the same in Holland by the way. Hardly anyone does of course but there it is. I have bought a paper copy signed by a local notary, of my passport and I use that (price €4 believe it or not).
I think its all rather silly, both the idea of counting nationalities in a firm and also the hysterical reaction to it. A combination of Reds under the Beds and Tree Hugging. Edit: I understand it was originally a Labour proposal way back when.Union, not Disunion

a clever chap like you might therefore conclude that unemployment might rise again in the future : unless you believe your compatriots claim he abolished boom and bust.
As you claim to understand and reject 'the lump of labour fallacy', you know and acknowledge that a lot of the 'jobs' are simply created by the demand of the immigrants.
Fewer immigrants, less demand and less suppy : no change in unemployment rate0 -
