  • The subset of people interested in having the referendum before the UK leaves the EU does not under any circumstance trump the needs of the remainder of the population that require certainty during negotiations.

It simply will not take place until after the UK leaves, if it happens at all.

They're writing the legislation for Holyrood to vote on now Tricky. The date will more than likely be open ended. The SNP and Greens have a majority in Holyrood between them and people will be free to vote Yes or No like last time. Subsets aren't really relevant in this case. Once the SNP and the Greens decide it's time to go for it, then they will.

To be honest it's becoming more about what's coming out of the mouths of Conservatives over the last few days than about the EU. We'll know more after the SNP conference next week where there's likely to be a strong push for another referendum. However, and it's a BIG however people won't vote on speculation about what Brexit could mean. So it's likely to be late 2018 or early 2019 before one is actually held. I doubt Sturgeon will be bounced into one before she's ready. Best to show Scots residents what they really are looking at first in terms of future Tory govt's and a hard Brexit.

May will of course try and block the first request to hold one legally. Sturgeon will punch the air and come out with that age old Scottish phrase 'ya dancer' when she does though.
It all seems so stupid it makes me want to give up.
But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid ?
  • Scotland seceding unilaterally from the Union would be the biggest punch in the nose imaginable for this repulsive government and their cretinous Brexit supporters.

    I hope it can happen.

Just make sure you move up here to stay long term, to fully enjoy the potential civil disorder, and finacial ruin of my country. So you can in your opinion give those you disagree with a big punch in the nose.

On a more serious note, if you are so discontent about all things British , and life in one of the best countries of this world, why don't you move to an EU country or anywhere else which allows free movement and find out if your lifestyle improves to meet your expectation.

Freedom of movement will still apply in Scotland though.

They'll be no civic disorder unless it's Orange Order buffoons swathed in Union Jacks taking to the streets like after the last referendum. Everyone else will just get on with it whatever the result. EU nationals and foreign docs/students would be absolutely delighted with a Yes vote though.

I guess you agree with the vile McDonnell: if you are genuinely angry its OK to suggest killing your opponents even if in this situation the anger is entirely faux.

SNP supporters share the same hypocrisy as their leader and MP's and MSPs.

SNP party publicly distanced itself from Wings Over Scotland ,refusing to share a stage or platform with its founder, Their MP/MSPs and activists, continued to post links advocating the website, as the gospel truth. And handed out copies of his Wee Blue Books. Elantan's favourite MP included. AFAIK none of his outpourings on economics were ever independently verified or approved, not even by SNP party central.

Sturgeon visibly spits the word Tories, and Red Tories for Labour, with such venom , each time she mentions them. Dismissing and alienating half of Scotland's people.

Several of her MP's publicly praised and encouraged one of Scotlands most abusive allegedly female Twitter trolls, particularly of female Labour MP's and anyone who supported the Union. John Monaghan SNP MP told this troll '

'We all have our different jobs to do, you do yours exceedingly well, keep up the good work.

Pete Wishart SNP MP another clown also tweeted the suggestion ' let's annoy a Yoon today'.

Sturegon shared a platform with Amber Rudd in support of an EU debate conferences, (lol) but hammered the Labour Party into the ground for doing exactly the same thing with the Conservatives during the Indy Ref.Sturgeon stated we are stronger together in the EU Union, we should work together to change the things we don't want, not throw our toys out the pram and walk away. Yet she rejected the exact same rhetoric from the Better together campaign during the Indy Ref.

As for break outs of violence and vandalism , referendums certainly can contribute to this. We saw this in Scotland, many incidents went unreported. As Trick has rightly said, there are always those who are predisposed to this type of behaviour anyway. And a minority. SNP used the exact same comment when this criticism was directed at their supporters. But new SNP party rhetoric now claims it's different.

As for naming and shaming businesses, neither Sturgeon nor Salmond made any effort to discourage their fervent supporters from publishing lists of pro Union companies , requesting SNP supporters boycotted them. who came out for the UK, Salmond incited a protest at the BBC. One fervent SNP supporter incited his social media followers to protest Asda by going in to their shops, loading trolleys with food then abandoning them. Sturgeon eventually suspended him when she ran out of excuses that he wasn't an SNP member.

The SNP rhetoric alluding to Crystallnacht on here is hilarious hyperbole typical of SNP considering their outrage when this type of comparison being suggested when a group of SNP council party members burned a copy of the Smith commission. They were suspended then reinstated one to a better position.

On jobs for British first, I seem to recall reading this is how many countries operate, including some Scandinavian countries eg Norway and France. They're not labelled racists but the UK is.

If this is all Sturgeon has left in her war chest she is on a hiding to nothing . Let's not forget over a million Scots voted Leave last time I checked including thousands of SNP voters. Are they all potential thugs, racists? If this million hadn't voted Leave along with NI who are being encouraged by our jolly fat ex FM to join his actions Remain would have won. They seem to conveniently forget this small point.

On a bright note the Daily Express ( I haven't multi source checked) reports Sturgeons office in the constituency she has failed since taking office has been closed due to a rat infestation. Shame the residents can't just move location as she does.

How do you know? When did you start speaking for Scotland ? Considering you said on here, most people who know you have no idea of your politics , you don't campaign for SNP with the exception of your posts on here, and you don't go to SNP meetings, all your posts are just your opinion, together with a choice of articles written by commentators, which again are simply their opinion.

    Opinion is not fact.

Sturgeon was fuming there. Davidson didn't seem care much though. I guess you have to hand a pretty thick skin to be a Tory in Scotland.

Um, what was going on with the lady sitting behind Nicola Sturgeon with the tartan cardigan, the huge shield brooch and the purple hair?

If the Scottish want a referendum, the Conservatives (May) will need to be the ones to give it to them. If she doesn't want to, and she's come out with some strong stuff on the SNP, then you won't get it. You just won't. No amount of foot stamping or 'political will' in Holyrood is going to help you there. In particular when the UK is negotiating Brexit.

You're up against a PM that will retain the union and will effect Brexit.

The only thing you could do is hold an advisory, but as String pointed out this would not be binding on Westminster and would be illegal as a pretext for unilateral separation.

So you, the indy supporters on here and the SNP are beholden to Theresa May and the Conservative party, you will all dance to their tune before they dance to yours.

    Explain how then!

Explain how they can hold a legally binding referendum without being allowed to do so?

Who do they have to ask in order to get a legally binding referendum?

What have those people said about the SNP and Scottish independence?

Explain how they will be able to unilaterally separate from the UK, without the UK's consent, a legal referendum or self-determination via the UN?

Don't just spout !!!!!!!!, explain how you arrived at such a ridiculous conclusion.
