Liberal lefty over reaction as usual.
    .

As a life long Conservative voter I've found much of the rhetoric coming out of this year's conference quite repugnant.

Of course what they say and what they do are two entirely different things.

So we'll see in due course if they've completely lost the plot or if this is just meaningless platitudes to appease the baying mob.

How different was it really to "British jobs for British workers"?

I'll let you google who said that.

Does that mean whoever said the above was also following Mein Kampf and therefore the second coming of Hitler?

The media in this country sucks massive balls and it's high time they were also turfed out on their backside.

No need for Google, I remember when Gordon Brown said that. I didn't like it then and I like it even less now. Foreign doctors, students, workers all targeted. And folk think the SNP are hateful & divisive.

You agree with the LBC 'comparison' to Mein Kampf then?

On the subject of asking companies to declare the percentage of foreign workers they have in their employ, I can think of numerous benefits to migrant workers in doing that. My wife, and her friends have recently (on my advice) signed up to a union, they didn't know what a workers union was and so had no idea how to protect or defend themselves for the bullying they're being subjected to within the workplace because where they've migrated from the world is so different.

If the government can identify the low hanging fruit of employers who employ large proportions of migrants and target them to set the example and improve standards for all then to me that is a win. It'll also be a great place to look for those who are here working illegally. Others may not see this as a problem, but when we've paid many £thousands and jumped through many legal hoops to obtain visa after visa, the right way, illegal migrants working here does grate and I welcome any attempt to crack down on that.

These measures would be beneficial to the legal migrants working here, as well as British citizens.

My wife appearing in statistics on her employers number of migrant workers doesn't make me feel she is a target.

She, like foreign doctors, nurses, students, etc.. are all required. But many benefits can be had from understanding where these people are because many (most of our circle of friends) do not understand their rights in this country and are taken advantage of by their employers because of that. My wife being one of them, much to my disgust, I can't represent her though so now she and her friends have joined a union on my advice for protection at a bullying employer.

The government can use information like this to make a difference to these people you're claiming are a target.

I'm sorry that real life examples get in the way of the narrative.

I'll assume your wife is foreign. I'd ask how she feels about this rather than how you feel. After all it doesn't affect you, only her.

I'd be interested in what you feel the benefits to foreign workers will be with this information.

I'll ask her tonight when she's back from her night school course (she wants to leave her current employer).

I think the current rhetoric is dangerously divisive, yes.
On the subject of asking companies to declare the percentage of foreign workers they have in their employ, .

What so the anti-immigration mob can skip past reasoned discussion and go straight to smashing in windows?

It's idiocy on stilts given the huge surge in racist hate crimes since the Brexit vote.

Things in Britain are going to get economically ugly over the next few years - there will be serious negative effects from Brexit - and the people who will suffer the most will be the poorly educated voters who already resent immigration.

Pandering to anti-immigrant sentiment - promoting a feeling of "us and them" - standing on stage at a party conference and feeding utter nonsense to the nation that validates some people's illogical and irrational dislike of immigrants....

It's inflammatory, dangerous, and deeply irresponsible.

excellent arguement for not discussing important issue of real concern:
direct results have been rotherham et al
    and of course brexit

I agree Hamish the proof will be in the actions ... and I hope it is all talk and no action, however, the fact they may feel they need to say this to appease certain aspects of their membership is disturbing.

I know a few Tory voters that like yourself would be appalled at these latest events, I hope the party change their course and soon

I'm sure Nazi Germany had seemingly sensible reasons for their actions at the time as well ... it's a slippery slope and one we should not even consider
