If, like me, you aren't very happy about leaving the EU the correct procedure is to moan about it and get ready to blame bad things on the Brexiteers. Only in the minds of nationalist acolytes is the antidote to Brexit an independent Scottish state.

I've not seen any polls for a while but assume by Sturgeon's lack of desire to call another referendum she thinks it can't be won. Clearly not as daft as some of her supporters.

....But around half of Scotland 'at the present time' want nothing to do with it or any sort of hard Brexit.
    Uh-huh.
And what about the "around half of Scotland 'at the present time'"who either do or don't care either way?
Presumably you want to ignore them and their wishes?
Just as it appears that you would ignore the wishes of the majority of the UK.

Oh wait, no that was 100 years ago. England is now a small country with little clout that has just shot its feet off because a bunch of geriatric bloody Barnes-Wallace's don't like foreigners.

Barnes Wallace was an engineer and scientist.

unlike Corbyn he wasn't born with a silver spoon in his mouth and he had a 'real ' job nearly all of his life.

obviously some-one the loony left would despise.

A Tory Prime Minister almost no one wanted or expected to be PM, with a paper thin mandate conveniently forgets all the begging her predecessor did to Scotland, and starts throwing her weight around.
    ...

    Why wouldn't she?

Perhaps she is seizing the moment, helped by an insipid Labour party.

It's not like the Tories are worried about losing lots of seats North of the border.

She will be measured on her success with dealing with Brexit, not pandering to a minority party like the SNP.

    Eh?
Since it's a hassle to split England from the rest of the UK ......... and also since England is by far the largest constituent part of the UK I will stick to UK figures.
    Argue with these:

The UK World ranking by population: 21
    http://www.worldometers.info/world-population/population-by-country/
Little; maybe. Try "small-ish" or even "mid-sized".
    Little clout though?
The UK world ranking by GDP: 5
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_GDP_(nominal)
Or this: "The UK has been crowned the world’s fifth richest country in the world in a new report that measures the total wealth amassed by each country’s individuals."
    http://www.cityam.com/227917/world-wealth-britain-crowned-fifth-richest-country-in-the-world-behind-us-china-japan-and-germany
    Or even this:
The UK world ranking by military strength: 6
    http://www.globalfirepower.com/country-military-strength-detail.asp?country_id=united-kingdom

There you see, things really are much better than you perceive them to be.
Perhaps after all it is only yourself that feels "insignificant with little clout"?
Now that would be much more appropriate.

I think shakeitallabout won't like this but what the heck:
Theresa May referred to "divisive nationalists" who she accused of seeking to "undermine" the UK.The reference was widely interpreted as being an attack on the SNP.
    http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-scotland-politics-37539439
To avoid any more wittering-on about "the plans? What are the plans?"-type nonsense, the following is an excerpt from the above link:
But he said the UK government would not be giving a running commentary on negotiations, which he acknowledged would "provide an opportunity for people who like to snipe from the sidelines".
That will leave some on here stymied then.
Oh, wait, no - perhaps not.
The usual mostly-imaginary ramblings will no doubt continue.
Because that is really all there is for these poor demented souls.
    Dreams.

I'd love to hear your view on Hungary then. Yesterday was a clear shot across the bows of Brussels.
  • There's no downplaying. Just how it is.

Holyrood exists at Westminsters pleasure and will be unable to resist a matter of reserved powers.

You had a vote in 2014. The UK had another vote in 2016. Both will be respected, and so they should for the wellbeing of the people of Scotland. I find all this debate around article 50 and the political and constitutional aspects pointless if you're advocating leaving yourselves and your compatriots without a pot to pee in. The economic argument is really the only one that matters, and remains the only one that both those most learned and ardent Wings Over Scotland followers and the SNP are unable to give an answer to.

Years they have had to prepare an economic defence. I thought we'd see some form of it from the SNP when the new GERS figures came out.

It's just law Tricky. We all have to abide by it, even Westminster. There have been plenty of answers put forward and potential ways for an independent Scotland to go economically. But you'll never read them since they don't appear in mainstream areas of the media so there's very little point in presenting any of them to you.
It all seems so stupid it makes me want to give up.
But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid ?

I think headlines should be banned from using the words 'Scotland and veto' in the same sentence.
    .

Yeah so called fervent SNP freedom fighters just love banning things don't they. Absolute joke.

Neither do they like democracy as shown by trying to ignore 2 referendum results which don't suit them.

But their piece de resistance is wanting to gain independence from the UK , simply to hand control straight over to an unelected group of technocrats sitting in Brussels.

    Independence my elbow.

No it's the impression that headlines give that somehow Scotland would be vetoing Brexit in terms of the entire UK. They are designed to get hackles up even though untrue and as we can see from posts here, they do just that.
I don't follow your logic about the problem with re-writing devolved law - surely that is just the Devolved Parliament's job. Then the SNP can wrestle with what to keep or not.

Shakey - Give us an example of a devolved law that will cause a problem.
Fishing and agriculture. At the moment nominally devolved to Holyrood but in reality completely under EU control. In the event of a Brexit would of course still remain devolved to Holyrood therefore Brexit means handing fishing control to Holyrood ( since it nominally already is ). Bit of a nuisance really if Westminster wants to use fishing grounds etc as some sort of bargaining chip. Because they won't have control of them. Holyrood will under successive Scotland Acts.

Of course, the Great Repeal Act might include something about taking powers back to Westminster but there of course is just the one of the problems with Holyrood ever voting through a Repeal act that contains any such clauses. So there's just one problem and sticking point. It's not just a case of the SNP scrambling to keep up. Even though once again you seem to have conflated the SNP with the Scottish parliament as a whole. It's far more complex than you seem to have grasped at all.
