And this isn't divisive? If I had a dim view of Scottish nationalism before it's well and truly in the gutter now. Either Scottish nationalism is defeated and called out on its hate or Scotland really ought to leave the union for the sake of the rest of the UK and we'll take the unionists with us. I see similar language from Sinn Fein in the 80's.
It's an odd situation; 55% of Scots voted NO and yet it's the minority that can't accept democracy who still appear to have the greater voice.
I think we have to try and call out the hate, the anti-english sentiment that is dressed up as something more wholesome that what it actually is, and the propaganda which continues to flow, which tries to keep alive an ideology that is as redundant as it is vile.
The support of our fellow democrats within the rest of the UK is crucial; NO voters up here need you to be aware that the silent majority is STILL the majority and that Sturgeon will never speak for us.
Your comparison with Sinn Fein is spot on BTW.
But hey, the guy with the history degree will be along in a minute to explain the difference between IRA nationalism and good old SNP nationalism.0 -
This is weapons grade vitriol.
"profligate war mongers and !!!!!phile appeasers"
is how we're thought of.
The comments section of this blog is a goldmine for anyone wishing to prosecute for incitement of hate.0 -

Umm....
So how do you explain people like me who are vehemently pro-Union, hate the idea of an iScotland, but if forced to choose between two awful choices of staying in the UK outside the EU/Single Market or staying in the EU/Single Market as part of an iScotland will choose Indy and the EU?
I feel more British than Scottish, have always voted Tory, dislike the SNP with a passion, fully understand the Yes campaign lied through it's teeth (as did the Brexiteers) but cannot stomach Scotland being pulled out of the EU against the overwhelming democratic will of the Scottish people.
If we're going to experience the inevitable decades of decline and pain from a diminished and increasingly irrelevant UK outside of the EU.... we might as well suffer the bigger short term hit of leaving the UK for the better and brighter future that awaits us within the EU.
And the recent post-Brexit polls that have shown a swing of 8% towards Indy, from circa 45% before, to circa 53% now, show enough people in Scotland agree with me to swing the decision.“The great enemy of the truth is very often not the lie – deliberate, contrived, and dishonest – but the myth, persistent, persuasive, and unrealistic.
Belief in myths allows the comfort of opinion without the discomfort of thought.”

There's a nationalist on these comments who thinks Spain still uses the peso.
It really is a great insight.
They also appear to think that the rest of the UK sells just as much to Scotland as Scotland does to the UK and that somehow this is being hidden from them by the mainstream media because no one talks about it.
60 million selling just as much to 5 million?0 -

Who are 'these people' Tricky ?
Interesting that you've gone from talking about economics to full on hysterical hyperbole. That didn't take much did it. I understand now exactly why you're a leave voter, and I doubt it's got !!!!!! all to do with the 'Norwegian option' either.
Do you feel comfortable defining wide groups of the UK electorate as threats like Sinn Fein in the 80's ? Should Nicola Sturgeon's voice be dubbed out of BBC reports perhaps ?
Mollycat and IslandAnnie are playing you mate. Both are full on SNP haters who debate here periodically in order to crank the hatred up a notch and sing from the 'anti-English' songbook as often as possible. Scottish civil war... just listen to yourself. Honestly. I'm a mother of five with an English husband. Lived in England for many years during my husband's time in the RAF and a fed up justifying myself about this anti-English s**t.
Disappointing after a good start from you in terms of grown up debate. It all seems so stupid it makes me want to give up.
But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid ?0 -

Ok, it was 2013, there should be newer figures avaliable, but.
The most recent Scottish government figures, not including oil and gas, show Scotland sold £50.5bn in goods and services to the rest of the UK in 2013. The rest of the UK sold £62.7bn in goods and services to Scotland.
That's a lot more than trade with the rest of the world, to which Scotland sold £21.3bn in goods and services, while importing £21.6bn from abroad.

Look at it proportionally, you can compare it £ for £ but it's still a whacking great chunk to Scotland, not nearly as much for the rUK.
And if you want to claim I'm exaggerating Shakey, read the comments from your compatriots. I've lied about none of it. I've exaggerated about none of it. It's there for everyone to see, permanently, on the Web. I only browsed through the first 4 article comments sections. Some of it was decent, some moderate, and some downright filthy. Not just towards the English, but towards Scots who want to remain in the union too.
The ugly face of Scottish nationalism I hadn't seen before. I keep brining it up because it genuinely shocked me. I never thought it was that bad. Sinn Fein-esque is pretty accurate for some of the comments on there.
Do you agree with "profligate war mongers and !!!!!phile appeasers"? Is that what the English are? And let's not forget we're supposed to be thieves too.
These are comments I can quite easily see coming from the mouth of Gerry Adams. And it's on a blog supporting Scottish independence.0 -

No one is disputing the figures. What is in dispute is that ALL of that will stop instantly should Scotland vote for independence on the basis of the Brexit vote and being out of the EU without single market access. Sort of like with the UK and the EU.It all seems so stupid it makes me want to give up.
