Good luck selling that one.
Only if England insists of regulatory divergence with Europe. We've had a hard border before so I dare say we'll manage it.
I'd love to stay within a United Kingdom within the EU, but I'd absolutely have a hard border with England if it meant we didn't get dragged out of the EU. A hard border would cause us to thrive as capital crosses it to get back into the EU markets.0 -
The biggest worry for the UK is a newly independent Scotland inside the EU while the UK is trying to negotiate a deal with the EU
Then Scotland will have the backing of 27 other equal partners and also have a veto on any deal that does not protect Scotland's interests.
Compare that to the situation currently- Scotland is basically told to sit down shut up and eat your porridge
Much like an abusive marriage where the larger and more powerful partner is controlling the less powerful one.
What kind of relationship is it where one partner has to seek permission from the other to leave?
Not a union of equals.
This is the reason that the UK are not prepared to let Scotland choose again.baldly going on...0 -

Thanks for reading it anyway
We can wait and see what transpires
This feels like the time in the 90's where the tories were telling us that there was no 'demand' or 'need' for a Scottish Parliamentbaldly going on...0 -
I've noticed a lot of talk even from the FM about how not every person that voted SNP supports indy I've not heard as much talk about how people also voted Tory,, Labour and LibDems that do vote indy
it seems its forgotten0 -

He never said we'd do all this before December 2020, just that it would be difficult for England & Wales to negotiate a deal with Scotland or the EU when Scotland is in the EU. We *might* have a withdrawal agreed by 2021 (optimistic given our track record) but it'll take many years after that to negotiate the deal going forward - a deal that's going to involve commitments on Scotland. If Scotland leaves at any point during the discussions then they'll be set back somewhat, and the balance of power will alter further. No wonder Boris says no.
Boris would say no even if he had a petition from the entire population of Scotland. He needs us and doesn't respect us enough to consider our views. Not that that's unique to Scotland, he doesn't respect anyone.0 -

Fortunately Pete, herzlos’ track record is such that you can pretty much guarantee that whatever he/she/they/it says, the exact opposite will happen.0 -

Therefore a second Scottish independence referendum has to take place beforehand. Autumn 2020 is most probable. However, the minute one is announced, Scotland's assets are out of the negotiations pending the result. And should there be a Yes vote, then Scotlands assets are off the table completely.
We'll see what Nicola has to say tomorrow. But I must say the SNP MP's signing in today were pretty upfront and bullish about hopefully this being the last time they will do so. Joanna Cherry in particular saying she's hoping to assert the Scottish Claim or Right and is there to settle up not settle in.Pleased to have been sworn in for the 3rd time as @theSNP MP for #Edinburgh South West and to assert the Claim of Right of the people of Scotland. Thanks to all the hard working activists who helped me get re-elected. #indyref2Huge congrats to new SNP MEP @heatherbell59. Her experience in business & in rural areas will be invaluable. Unlike me she’s off to the #EU Parliament to settle in whereas I’m here at the U.K. parliament to settle up #indyref2 #ScotlandsRighttoChoose
It all seems so stupid it makes me want to give up.
But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid ?0 -
I watched it today, interesting also the people speak in gaelic doric and auld Scots
and the claim of right was also a fantastic wee twist
but as for the BBC reporter he really let himself down0 -

He mentioned December 2020?
Or did Boris threaten December 2020, which I'm sure he'll stick to just as rigidly as November 1st, 2019.
Or May did with June 2019, March 2019 and so on.
We've probably got until about 2030 to leave before Englands negotiations would no longer be screwed by it.0 -
Invest in SNP controlled Scotland ...........
Scotrail to be nationalised in 2022! How much will that cost?
