  • Looks like Ian Blackford may lose his seat in the GE if as is reported the Tories and/or Labour don't put up candidates.

Wonder if the NHS will be debated in Scotland as much as Independence in the coming weeks.
Achieving financial sustainability also remains a major challenge for health boards. Half of all NHS savings were non-recurring, while predicted deficits and reliance on additional financial support from government have increased. The capital budget has also reduced by 63 per cent over the last decade and there is a near £1 billion of backlog maintenance and issues around high-profile capital builds.
Caroline Gardner, the Auditor General for Scotland, said: "The NHS in Scotland is running too hot, with intense pressure on staff and a service model that will remain financially unsustainable without a much greater focus on health and social care ntegration.

  • No it's not.

From the Scottish Parliament web site

It was decided to use a system called the Additional Member System (AMS). This system allows people to have a local constituency MSP and also adds other members to make the overall result more proportional. In this way more viewpoints are represented in Parliam

He's made it clear he wants to take control of the Scottish NHS back. Presumably so he can sell it off?
I'm honestly not sure how protected it is from Tory privatization and any US deals.
Unfortunately Brexit and new trade agreements, are not and never will be compatible with the current levels of devolution to Scotland. The Tories ( if returned ) will have to take powers, and many of them, back to Westminster in order to secure new FTA's. We've already seen this with the Continuity Bill and the Sewel Convention. Changed retrospectively in order to hand back devolved areas to Westminster. This will continue apace should Johnson's Brexit deal or indeed any deal that takes Scotland out of the Single Market happen.

The SNP are acutely aware of this. They've been hanging back and waiting a long time for this General Election to take place. However, it's time to put all those plans into action now. Nicola suddenly appearing front and centre at indy rallies for the first time in years today is a big sign of this. They will ask for a Sect 30 in December no matter how many MP's they get in this GE, no matter who is in power. 56 or 6 MP's as we know makes no difference anyway as to how much consideration will be given to any request. We all know a Sect 30 isn't happening.

The Referendum Bill will still progress through Holyrood though and will become Scottish Law at some point soon. The SNP know as well as ordinary people like me that it's independence or devolution rolled back ( along with NHS control ) to nothing. They've no intention of basing their hopes on any Westminster granted Sect 30. None whatsoever. But will be very high profile seen fighting this GE on the Scottish electorates right to decide their own future. Scottish Law imho is where their mandate lies for a legally held referendum. Along with the precedent that one has already happened. Take note of recent Scottish court cases re Johnson shutting down Westminster or forcing letters to be written.
It all seems so stupid it makes me want to give up.
But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid ?
  • If you don't get +50% of the vote at the GE can we just put it to bed for the next 20-25 years? Remember your "Once in a generation" promise?

By that reason there should be no government in the UK as there is never (in the last half century at least) a government with over 50% of the vote

Or are you doing a standard unionist trope- different rules for Scotland and any indy ideas

The SNP have a better mandate than the UK government- they got a higher share in Scotland than the current (or last 3) prime ministers got across the UK.

  • Sounds like an admission that you don't have a majority for independence in Scotland which is what we all know already.

There's only one way to find out. Next year once the next ref is announced. I'm sure you're looking forward to voting in it as much as I am.

Sounds like an admission that NO government has a majority in a first past the post Westminster system (which needs replaced by PR)
