And anyway, the truth of the matter is that losing Scotland means the UK losing leverage in any future trade deal with the EU. It's an idea you're going to have to get used to and fast. Any EU offical, minor or major who thinks there's the slightest possibility Scotland is leaving the UK and whose country has a fishing industry... is going to be out and proud about 'welcoming Scotland' with open arms. Expect more of the red carpet roll out especially if Theresa is replaced by Boris.
I don’t think anybody has quoted a politician quite that minor before regarding possible Scottish membership of the EU. He’s not even a MEP.
As someone whose family have been fishermen on the Moray Firth for centuries, it’s nice to see the SNP supporters are willing to sell us out.0 -

Reality is, once the UK is officially a third country, all sort of offers to a potentially independent Scotland are likely to come flooding in. I expect EFTA/EEA will be keen and as we're seeing now, EU sentiment ( not offical or political statements ) are certainly changing from 2014.
There have been lots of statements by both minor and major EU figures since the Brexit vote. The sad fact of the matter as far as this thread is concerned is there are many still stuck in 2014 and refuse to believe the EU would ever want Scotland as member. It doesn't actually matter who says it Honey.t's interesting that this question is still being posed. Last year, the European Parliament's chief Brexit negotiator, Guy Verhofstadt, told MPs it was a "simple fact" that an independent Scotland could join the European Union after Brexit.
Verhofstadt was re-affirming previous comments in which he said “if Scotland decides to leave the UK to be an independent state and they decide to be part of the EU I think there is no big obstacle to do that”.It all seems so stupid it makes me want to give up.
But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid ?0 -

I was referring to your post which I cannot see was anything other than selling out the fishermen for EU membership. I would suggest you re-read your own post.
As the SNP saysThe SNP believe that EU membership delivers many social, economic and cultural benefits for individuals, business and communities across Scotland. We believe that the best way to build a more prosperous and equal Scotland is to be a full independent member of the EU.

It’s fisheries polices are completely academic as EU membership requires being in the Common Fisheries Policy.0 -
If wee nippy doesn't like who the UK PM is it'll be an excuse for another Indyref vote...smacks of desperation.

What I don't get is the idea of being a fully independent member of the eu. There is no such thing, if you are a member of the eu you are not independent. If they say jump you have to say how high, you could turn around and say no but they would then drag you through the courts and make you jump twice as high. What is this life if, full of care, we have no time to stand and stare0

Your argument means nothing I'm afraid unless England is going to shut the border about put 10,000's out of work who depend on that trade ? If you truly are going to do so, then it says exactly why Scotland shouldn't really be in a Union with England anyway. Petty spite like some posts display here, is also never good business practice.
Thing is the SNP can’t bleat about the potential loss of the 15% of trade it does with the EU and then be entirely relaxed about the 63% it does with the rUK.
Not unless they’re being disingenuous of course.“Britain- A friend to all, beholden to none”. 🇬🇧0 -
Meanwhile, over in The National, a paper so wee that it doesn't even come at #1 in a google search of it's own name:Huge thanks to everybody who has signed up to support us so far. As of today, we have 6049 subscribers – and we’re well on our way to our next target of 7000.
Steady on, that's an extra 51 subs! The next investment we make could be a gamechanger – a full-time video journalist producing viral videos about politics which are easily shareable and can help take the case for independence to places the newspaper can’t reach.
Readers, presumably.
