This below was a cosy wee meeting today wasn't it. Nice of Michel to drop by. BBC Scotland and all the other media outlets are far too scared to report it in case it looks as if Barnier might be taking the Scottish Govt seriously. That just wouldn't do !
It over ran by all accounts I guess they all had a lot to chat about.EU negotiator Michel Barnier ‘interested in Scotland’ and ‘well informed’ on visit to the Scottish Parliament
The EU’s chief Brexit negotiator met with the Scottish Parliament European Committee so members could hear first-hand about progress in the Brexit negotiations and the respective EU and UK positions from a European Commission point of view...
..."Mr Barnier was interested in Scotland and was well-informed about our concerns around Brexit. “We discussed the importance of reaching a deal and the concerns about the pace of the negotiations.
“He has a very clear mandate to negotiate for the EU27 as one.
“We discussed what needs to happen before negotiations can move on to any future relationship between the UK and the EU as well as models for transitional arrangements.
“I made it clear that a majority of the committee favoured remaining in the single market. It all seems so stupid it makes me want to give up.
But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid ?0 -

Scottish Labour and Scottish Tory MP's only end up being lobby fodder in Westminster also as history has well shown. It all seems so stupid it makes me want to give up.

What's the point in standing for Westminster then, if your too feart to do that, then why don't you follow the lead of your Sinn Fein friends and withdraw all your MPs from Westminster?
Because you know what the vast majority of your constituents would say.0 -

Remind us how the local by-election in Foristat went?
Labour - 1,420
A Better Britain - Unionist Party - 858
SNP - 761
Beaten in to third place a by a party the vast majority of people have never even heard of. :rotfl::rotfl:
SNP on <21% ...............sounds about right and heading South. That is real on the ground result and not one of your "panelbase surveys"

I wasn't talking about the SNP as a party. I was talking about voters like me. Those 1.6 million who more or less disengaged with Westminster politics back in Sept 2014 by voting to leave it. In 2015 we returned 56 out of 59 independence supporting MP's in order to try and enact change in some form. Nothing happened.
2017 - SNP voters from 2015 stayed at home in droves. Personally, I find it very difficult to muster much enthusiasm for Westminster politics and taking part in the process these days. I'm far from alone in this and I think the general commentary from after the GE regarding the SNP/independence is concentrating on the wrong factors. They're confusing a complete lack of enthusiasm and a growing indifference to Westminster general elections, as a lack of support altogether.
Voting in an independence referendum is another prospect entirely. Shaka above is now in desperation territory trying to equate a council by-election based on a stv voting system as proof of something. Who knows what though. It all seems so stupid it makes me want to give up.
But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid ?0 -

You're arguing that SNP voters are disenchanted with Westminster as an excuse for your dismal performance in the General Election.
I'm just [pointing out that your performance is just as dismal in local elections with only around 20% of the vote.
What I'm saying is that regardless of your best efforts to paint a rosy picture and obscure the truth, and that is support for the SNP and independence has well and truly passed it's peak and for the time being at least, it is all downhill.0 -

Things are so fluid and changeable right now. Something you yourself would be wise to remember. Mark Diffley ( former Ipsos Mori ) yesterdayFrom poll 1) public opinion so fluid-
22% of Tory voters in June would now NOT vote for them - same for 31% of Lab voters & 34% of LDs - Wow2) SNP vote more consistent - 9% who voted for the in June would now not vote SNP.The UK Government's EU withdrawal bill could remove the legislative competence of the Scottish Parliament and erode human rights, a leading legal professional body has warned...
..the Law Society of Scotland said the draft legislation is "complex, difficult to interpret and lacking in clarity"...
.."The effect of the bill would be to remove the legislative competence of the Scottish Parliament in relation to any matter in retained EU law. This would be the case even if it related to areas of law not reserved to the UK under the Scotland Act, such as agriculture or fisheries."
I was posting about the above stuff eons ago on here. I'm bored now. With both Westminster and with posts like yours. Posting big pictures up from whatever Union at any cost site is your latest favourite doesn't make for particularly enlightening debate.
My prediction for the next few months ? The Repeal Bill will pass, once it does May/Davis will walk out of talks probably after the German elections. Davis is only at the negotiations as it is faffing about playing for time. Sturgeon and the SNP will keep quiet for a bit, preferring instead to let Scottish Labour and Ruth Davidson justify and defend any rewriting of the Scotland Act taking extensive powers back to Westminster. And/or even worse, be seen voting to do so. Davidson herself has no idea what she wants.
11 September 2017Ruth Davidson 'not flying the flag for Brexit'
The Scottish Conservative leader Ruth Davidson has said she would campaign to remain in the European Union if another referendum were to be held.
When the Brexit s**t hits the fan and when anger, fear of cliff edges, WTO and the unknown is at it's worst the Scottish Govt will go all in and call an already mandated referendum offering EFTA, the Single Market AND a FTA with the rUK. The Tories will try and stop it but it will go ahead anyway since by then the Scottish electorate themselves will want a choice either way. Watch this space...It all seems so stupid it makes me want to give up.
But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid ?0 -

Spot on.
Once the Brexit debacle sinks the UK economy, the case for Scottish independence will be an easy one to make and an even easier one to win.0
