To top it all off my boss is creating yet more work by refusing to be even slightly organised, despite being a massive control freak. It's an odd mix of character traits I've not come across before.
The one thing he absolutely shouldn't be doing with that combination of traits is managing others, which you have no doubt worked out for yourself. Sounds like he's been promoted beyond his ability to do the job (that has a name that I can't remember).
Is the problem with your job caused by this boss / nature of the current job, or both, or the entire field you work in? I'm unlikely to be able to offer any helpful career suggestions (don't know your skills, qualifications, training etc and even if I did I'm not sure it would help; computers I can do, people less so). It's more trying identify the root of your unhappiness with what you're doing now. So, would a better job in the current field be of interest or is it case of "REALLY don't want to do this kind of work any more"?

It is helpful ono, and something I've been thinking about a lot lately. There are parts of my job that I could happily do for a different type of organisation, and parts that I'd happily see the back off altogether. So now I just need to find a small, local charity to work for, instead of a badly-run, large consultancy.
Just about to start a day of looking at site equipment that I have no idea about and trying to get people who've been working with it for 30+ years to take me seriously.....there's no way I would if things were the other way round!0 -
Is the scary thing today, Tea?
Was yesterday just the journey?(I just lurve spiders!)

Just been to the doctor. Was asked if I was able to remove my jeans on my own, and offered a step to get up into the examination couch.:rotfl:
I know I'm having a rough week but I'm not bloody ninety. However big the bags under my eyes might be this morning. I now feel old!
Tea and melly, positive thoughts for scary things today. All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

I was 30 in 2009..... so 40 is fast approaching
Oh do hush nowAs someone whose next birthday is 40 you seem a very long way away from it!!
Good luck with the work thing today. Do you get tomorrow off to make up for the ridiculous amount of travelling time today?
Melly, I hope all goes well with your scary thing too.
Massive hugs to all that need them xx0 -

My fear is that from now on, people will take one look at my age and make all sorts of assumptions,, without actually looking at my lifestyle.
I also object strongly to being lumped in an age category which includes people old enough to be my mother!
Plus, I was a child of the 60s, and we changed the world! Rock on!
Respeck, please!(I just lurve spiders!)

I just want to have a little whinge about the number of emails I'm getting with "Black Friday" in the subject, used to be three or four, but I've had dozens to my personal account since the weekend. Even a spam to work from a (UK based) recruitment agency was offering a "Black Friday discount". :rotfl:Proud member of the wokerati, though I don't eat tofu.Home is where my books are.Solar PV 5.2kWp system, SE facing, >1% shading, installed March 2019.Mortgage free July 20230
