Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton0 -
I am very tempted to apply. Will I see you there, code?

Code, brilliant idea for that meeting!
Ono, re. your parents, just keep enjoying their company as much as you can. You sound like a lovely son!
Re. your friend, I bet she would appreciate frequent calls/texts/emails form you, even if only to tell her the odd anecdote/funny thing. That way she will know you care, and even if she doesn't respond much, just carry on doing it.
If she hasn't felt that bad before, she's probably totally bewildered herself, and won't know what she does want from you or anyone else, so by regularly making your presence known, you are letting her know that you are there for her.

The sun just came out and a butterfly flew past my window.
I just finished the main thing I needed to get done today. Hooray. Still plenty to do, just not so time critical.:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Because these weirdos are your true family.0 -

I'm glad you posted it, tea.
I'm a 'fixer' so I would unwittingly upset when I need to learn to keep quiet. I do need to know how to move a conversation on when I didn't get the answer I may have been expecting. (Not that I am expecting people to have children, but if they say no and don't elaborate, I get stuck).:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. I promise I will get off my high horse about this now (for a while at least
) Hormones are running high and wild :rotfl:.
Lovely to see a few lurkers posting, I hope everyone that's reading and not feeling too great knows how very welcome they always are.
Penguin response to ono - very much know what you mean about parents. It does sometimes seem to hit home that they just won't be there for ever. I'm really close to my parents and sister (however much they wind me up sometimes, they're still my absolute best friends and the best company). We had a great day out last week and after that I had a bit of a moment of worry, as there are quite a lot of health issues for both of them.0 -

Oooh! A Whitewing cuddle!
That is a pearl of great price, and I would love one! Many thanks! :kisses3:
Funnily enough, I saw a butterfly in my front garden, a red admiral I think, at around the same time as you!
Tea, that article made me steam with indignation. The insinuation that if you're not a mother you may not be kind or empathetic or understanding etc. etc.
What makes me even madder is that so many of these smug mums are also the ones that give their children tooth-rotting drinks in teat bottles or feeder cups, or allow them to choose yucky fast food over nutritious food, or let them run riot in public places with no thought to how other people or neighbours might be affected.(I just lurve spiders!)
