Whether it's true or not I know that it makes me feel better and, as you say, it gives you something else to focus on. I'm glad things are a bit better.
Ono - enjoy your time off and seeing your friend. Is it the same one who's having a hard time at the moment?
Code - that meeting sounds hideous. I generally hide at the back and try not to fall asleep whenever I get dragged into meetings.
Tea - is there another Brownies group nearby where you can help out instead?0 -
Oh help. I overheard someone at the bus stop reminding her friend that the Christmas shoe boxes for littlewing's school have to be in tomorrow. I had completely forgotten but I wanted littlewing to take one.
I am at work all day. Tesco del slot for tonight and tomorrow morning is already full (usually I am lucky).
Didn't even have a shoe box but then I got told the local shoe zone would give me one. Went there and the lady was so lovely and so delighted that when she said, 'Just one?' I found myself taking two. She comes out with 2 huge shoe boxes.
Where am I going to get stuff to fill them? It is going to have to be the supermarket as I have about half an hour free before my exercise class. Must make a list.:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. I know. I am largely spared them for work, but used to have to go to seminars for a volunteering role for a hobby. I found myself thinking "Can we have some actual content now please, rather than waffle?" when listening to speakers.Proud member of the wokerati, though I don't eat tofu.Home is where my books are.Solar PV 5.2kWp system, SE facing, >1% shading, installed March 2019.Mortgage free July 20230 -
WW - is there anything at home you already have that you could use? Small notepads, pens and pencils, things like small puzzles, little toys, balls, soft toys, spare hat, mittens.
Some of the ones I used to do also took toiletries (not sure if they all do) so things like toothpaste, toothbrush, soap, flannel, hairbrush, hairbands.0 -
I am quite a diligent declutterer these days due to a chaotic hoarderish childhood, and littlewing is an emotional hoarder-type so it would be quite traumatic for her to give away her stuff. What we do have is stuff she uses. She may be persuaded for one or two bits. Toiletries etc I have already run down as we will get them for xmas.:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. It does tend to be typical that the one time a bit of a stash would be useful is the time you've been good about clearing things out :rotfl:.0

With DS, we used to do it every year and so I set aside stuff through the year that fit the criteria. In this area though there isn't always a collection area or they use slightly different charities with different.requirements. Like the one this year which has adult boxes as well as children's so I could set aside some things but then next year they will probably change to children only charity or something.
Anyway, I expect there will be enough in the shop on BOGOFF or something that I'll be able to stock up for littlewing's next birthday too.:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Izadora, yes, it's the same friend. She lives in London, so typically I only see her two or three times a year as it's quite difficult to sort out dates / times that we can both do..My default position is always "stay in the house", but generally once I make myself get out and about I do enjoy things.
About brownies, volunteering for a hobby should always be enjoyable. If you're not enjoying it then seriously consider why you are doing it. I know from personal experience that a sense of obligation can be a strong motivation, but not a very welcome one.Proud member of the wokerati, though I don't eat tofu.Home is where my books are.Solar PV 5.2kWp system, SE facing, >1% shading, installed March 2019.Mortgage free July 20230 -
We used to make ourselves little bingo cards with words/phrases on, then mark them off when people said them
Ridiculous corporate speak like "going forward", "low-hanging fruit" and the like.
Kept us entertained for ages :rotfl:.
What's low-hanging fruit? Not heard that one!
