Oh my, I'm as stiff as a board today! Had a good day yesterday, rain stayed off and it wasn't as muddy as last year, although I did manage to step into a big muddy puddle and nearly lost my shoe!
After a somewhat shakey start - it wasn't cordoned off properly, and with the first massive cloud of paint, we couldn't see where we were going, and just followed everyone else (although some obviously realised they were going the wrong way and corrected themselves) and ended up going round the same bit again, which included a hill! - We beat last years time by 8 minutes!
I've never met anyone as competitive as my Uncle! It's only a fun run, but he had his stopwatch on and was obsessed with beating last years time, and was weaving in and out of the other runners "excuse me, coming through!" :rotfl: and when I stopped to blow my nose, he was like "don't stop now, we've got to make up time"! Because the others runners we sensible and went round the mud, he just ran through it, and so that's how I ended up with the muddy trainers to try and keep up! So from being virtually at the back due to the "detour", we ended up coming in not far from the front!
For 75, he's amazing! His next thing to do is a paraglide....he's trying to get me to do it too, but even though I really want to, I'm not too good with heights! Will have to think about that one! :rotfl:0 -
Go for it georgie. When I went gliding it was so high up that it didn't feel dangerous.
Well done on the colour run. Your uncle sounds amazing.:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Because these weirdos are your true family.0 -
He is WW!
He's done so many marathons, half marathons and fell runs that I think even he's lost count! He's always got to be on the go and have something planned. As he said to me yesterday, you've just got to keep on going and keep on doing things whilst you can. My Dad was very much the same, and had the same PMA.
Whilst going round, he was so encouraging to all the other runners, saying hello and well done to everyone he zoomed past! There was a woman on crutches and a woman with a pram, and he was telling them about how he got his knee done a few months back and was on crutches so he admired her for doing it. Anyone who stopped or looked like they were in difficulty he asked if they were ok.
He looks about 10-15 years younger than he is, and like my Dad, I'm convinced it's fitness that keeps them that way.
On the way out, my Aunty was like "what are you two cooking up now?"....apparently we are going on a bike ride on Tuesday! :rotfl:
So you think once I'm up there with the paraglide then I'd be ok? What does it feel like?0 -
Thanks, yes. I rang the GP first thing and have an appointment for later on today.
I expect she'll refer me for an ultrasound scan. They're better for showing up cysts.(I just lurve spiders!)

Morning All,
Well, that's another weekend over all too quickly!!
(((( Faerie )))) As hard as the situation with your friend must be, you've done the right thing. I hope that the activities you've signed up for make it easier to make friends at the centre.
(((( Pyxis )))) I know there's nothing I can say which will stop you worrying but I hope you've managed to get an appointment and that all's okay.
WaS, as always, that makes perfect sense.
Calley - my family are the same as your neighbours but it's not a false thing. I'll penguin the reason behind it just in case as it does mention death It's something my parents and I have always done and OH does it too. It's not because we need the reassurance that we're loved but it's kind of a safety thing because it means that if anything happens to any of us we know that our last words to each other would've been "I love you. Well, technically my last word to OH would probably be "b0ll0cks" as our final exchange before I leave the house tends to be "I love you"; "I love you more", "B0ll0cks" but the idea behind it's the sameEnd penguin
Elsien - if red wine has the same effect on gitdog as it does me, it makes me very sleepy, you should definitely give him some. I'd probably start him off with some plonk rather than the good stuff though.
Georgie - :T:T Seeing as I'm not sure I'd even be able to run to save my life I'm very impressed.
As usual, hugs to all and sorry if I've missed anyone.0 -
Good morning all! I have been reading (although not very effectively, I didn't see Pyxis's cyst (Pyxcyst?) until this morning) but have been away play an opera (which I can almost guarantee none of you are likely to know -
The Death of Klinghoffer, anyone? (oops, now I can't turn bold off).
Pyxis, I am sure it's another cyst if cysts operate anything like mine do - they delight in lulling you into a false sense of security and then reappearing
Faerie and WaS - you are so informative! Thank you so much for sharing. It really helps me to understand a whole range of people so much better. I hope you - well in fact, all of us - can find the resources for dealing with past griefs and healing, but you have more to deal with than most.
Special hugs and squishes to anyone who would like one xxxxEx board guide. Signature now changed (if you know, you know).0 -
Morning my Lovelies,
Izzy I do understand totally. I can't remember the last words I spoke to my husband when I left him before he had his stroke in the early hrs of the morning.
But as its not something I do in my household. from a personal stance. I do find it a bit false and we have been neighbours for 11 years and its only in the last year or two I have heard it.
Mind you when people visit me at night be it friend or lego man I ask them to text me when they get home as I am worrier lol!!! Even now I get my husband to text me when he gets in after coming back from volunteering. Mainly because its buses and in the winter its dark when he gets back. And being disabled it worries it makes him a target. Mind you all the buses drivers know himnot sure if that is good or bad :rotfl:
Right catch you all later. As lego man is due any min for us to go out. Think its for lunch :j
Hugs and squishes and handshakes for all. And for all the MIA's an extra special wave out.
Yours
CalleyHope for everything and expect nothing!!!

.
Thanks Izzy! Tbh, there was a lot of race walking involved too!
My family is the same as yours and I agree, it's definetly not a false thing at all. Me and my Dad would always part with a kiss and a hug (I miss that) and it would feel wrong if we didn't. I think your family is either like that or not and you do whatever feels right for you and your family. I don't think anyone would put it on and be false about it, they just wouldn't do it if it wasn't their thing.

In the glider it feels very peaceful.
The beauty of the world below took me over. I felt cushioned from reality. It was too high up to feel that I needed to do anything other than relax and enjoy the experience.:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. That sounds beautiful WW!
I know it's very much an individual thing and no one can predict how anyone will react, but I just wondering how I'd be with me not being too fond of heights?
Meant to add before that even though ER is still having bad days, it's probably to be expected as it's still very early days yet. Hopefully the good days will become more and more frequent.Has her speech been affected at all? I remember my Mam saying (when my Nana had one) that if the speech comes back fairly fast then that is a good sign.
Glad you managed to get an appointment for today Pyxis.0
