Fly I have never had a problem

Your using a semi perm which only coats the hair anyway so can't change colour drastically

Someone tell me enough about zumba that I get through the door of my local class this month. I have the chance to try it as my other commitment has now ended.

I won't reply straight away as I am taking littlewing out to the park this afternoon.

Melly, you need help and you need it now. Please call someone on an eating disorders support line before you really hurt yourself. Pain killers are not something you should be abusing, especially on an empty stomach. You are doing irreparable damage to your body and soon will be of no use to your OH, dogs and cats.

Fly - you should be ok, but the dye will fade quickly. You might want to take along a deep conditioner to offset sun and chlorine damage. The green thing only really happens with bleached hair and can be fixed with ketchup. You can get a special shampoo for chlorinated hair - I used it when I swam competitively - but not sure it'd be thst helpful. Very jealous of your Mexico trip. Just remember not to drink the water :rotfl:
Also thanks for the gift ideas. I've made a photo collage of her hometown printed onto canvas so there's that. She really is impossible. She's actually started getting out more since she joined an old ladies group.

    Hello everyone.

Melly, I agree with codemonkey that you should try and call an eating disorder support line. It sounds awful what you're going through but you definitely sound like you need some help right now.

WaS, sorry to hear about your anxiety attack. You're definitely not worthless. Sounds like you've helped a lot of people over the years on this thread :) Hope you feel better soon.

Whitewing, the thing to remember is that classes can vary depending on who the instructor is. As can the choice of music they make. As can the degree of highness in the class.

For example, my instructor has two types of classes, 'normal' Zumba, and Zumba Gold.

The Gold classes are for people who find the normal ones too high, or for people who are unfit, or recovering from injuries, or who just don't want to do higher stuff.

Her normal Zumba classes often use the same tunes as the Gold, but hypes them up a bit, or uses some moves that are more intense.

I can manage both of these types of classes. Even within a class, you don't have to go mad; you can tone down the moves to suit your own ability and level of fitness. So you can leap up and down, or step daintily!

It's not a dance class, even though you are using dance steps, so you don't have to feel you must do every step perfectly. The aim is to move to the music, not be in a chorus line!

Now, Although I can manage both types of this instructor's classes, that doesn't mean to say that I can cope with other classes. I once went as a guest to another instructor's class, and nearly died! It was far too fast and furious for me. Plus I didn't like the music she used. It was all too techno for my taste.

My instructor uses a wide range of upbeat music, from Zumba Latin, to trad. Latin, to rock'n'roll, to hits of the 60s,70s,80s,90s, and contemporary chart stuff too.

The other thing to remember is that the first visit will be daunting. You'll think you'll never get the hang of all these different moves. But you will. A lot of the moves are repeated a lot in individual tunes, and between tunes. After your third session you'll start to get the hang of it.

And finally, if you don't like a particular class, try another instructor in a different class. It might suit you better. Don't be put off Zumba because you don't get on with one particular style.
Word of warning, though. My instructor has a stable of three other instructors, and they all work to her remit, so if you want to change to a different class, check that they are not in the same 'stable'. Having said that, even in my particular 'stable', I have favourite instructors!

Take water with you and keep swigging it between dances. Very important. (Actually, that's what got me into preferring water to soft drinks!)

    .

    Wha?????

Ketchup? How does that work then? Do you just squirt it on like shampoo?

You massage ketchup into your head, then generally wrap some plastic wrap and sit out in the sun... smelling of condiments for a bit.

The green colour that chlorine tints bleached hair with is caused by a copper oxidisation process. The tomatoes and vinegar in ketchup help to undo this effect by breaking down the chemicals attached to your hair while the red colour of ketchup also helps to neutralise the green colour.

    Well, whadderya know!
Those chemistry lessons weren't in vain then!

Would vinegar on its own work, or do you have to have the tomatoes too?
