Ignore the posting frenzy but I am all sentimental now.

My favourite memory of my favourite psychiatrist is when I met him for the second time. It was a group meeting with me, him, my therapist, my CPN and my social worker. We sat in a circle and they all proposed ways in which they could help me until my psychiatrist stopped them and said WaS, your main problem is that you truly hate yourself. No one has ever hated you as much you do and if we can tackle that you will start to get better. No one had ever said that so openly to me before and I burst into tears because he was right.

He said we will deal with each disorder one at a time for however long it takes, there would be no time limit to my treatment and we would try different types of therapy until one worked. He decided we would start with OCD. He told me everyone had OCD to an extent and it didn't make me odd and it wasn't scary. He suggested we all go around the circle and share our own experiences of OCD in our everyday lives. Well, you have never seen such an embarrassed group of professionals. He told me every time he got to the top of the stairs with his newborn baby he had to turn around and touch 3 walls. It wasn't logical at all and he knew that but he feared if he didn't complete the ritual he would drop her. That was his personal example of OCD. He then said let's ask everyone else.

My therapist was scarlet and avoided the question completely, my CPN quietly muttered she had to check for her car keys 3 times and my social worker said she counted mouthfuls when she ate. They were soooo embarrassed and I pretty much burst into giggles! Then my psychiatrist said See? You aren't odd at all!

I loved him after that. He always gave me examples, often personal ones of how each of my disorders were just an exaggeration of what everyone has, nothing to be afraid of and nothing to make me feel apart from people. He is a very kind man with a wonderful approach to psychiatry. I am not at all surprised that he has done so well in his field.

WaS Go for it. I'm sure he would be so pleased to know how things are for you.

Faerie that's just awful. How bad does it need to be?

I'm very anxious about speaking with someone tomorrow, they'll probably wonder why is it a problem for me.
Lost my soulmate so life is empty.

I can bear pain myself, he said softly, but I couldna bear yours. That would take more strength than I have -

GOSH, it's so difficult to keep up with this thread!

Singlesue - do keep on with the colour therapy. I thought it was a brilliant idea to post the colours here (ummmm - was it Pyxis? Untra goldfish memory!)

WaS - I'm so sure your psychiatrist will remember you and be chuffed to bits to hear from you, even if they don't have the time to write back :)

Squishes to all, and apologies for my rushed posts - I do keep reading, but some of it is on the tube or on the go! xxxx

You've probably been on the go too long.

Being on here doesn't help, either! :rotfl:

I find I have to stop and wind down quite early, otherwise I'm awake for too long.

    Like now!

    Edit....but am flagging now! Goodnight!

WaS, I'm glad you have understood my mood colours, every time I have tried to speak to people about it before, they have looked at me as if I have grown two heads! Or if they have understood (or at least they think they do), then argued my colours are wrong.

Same colour as my car tonight, Peugeot dark blue but I have been up to a not quite light green, more a mid green during the day, so an improvement.
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.

Well now I could go to sleep no problem - now I'm at work with loads to do and no idea how to get going on any on it. Typical :rotfl:.

Well it's nice to be in demand melly, but it's really good that you're saying no to some of these. Hope you're managing to get some rest with your beautiful furries x.

Busy is good - at the moment am in the stage of "rabbit in the headlights" no idea where to start.... which is less good. I might procrastinate further with another coffee and then see if I can work out how to get going.
