  • I bought my Hotpoint tumble dryer in March last year and registered for the fault in January. Hadn't heard anything back about scheduling a repair but then received a letter advising that my 1 year manufacturer warranty was about to expire with details of costs for further five year warranty cover. When I realised the machine was still under warranty I set about trying to get a straight replacement or refund. After five phone calls I got through to Hotpoint HQ who couldn't help, but advised that my appointment was scheduled for October 2016 (news to me), gave me a reference number and advised I go back to Currys (where I purchased the unit from) to discuss the warranty replacement. It would seem a lot of retailers have now got their acts together (no doubt not wanting to keep replacing machines for free) and are being very specific about the wording; according to the Currys Care Plan / KNOWHOW team, these machines aren't FAULTY, they require a MODIFICATION - which is therefore not covered under warranty. The exact wording received from the KNOWHOW Team by e-mail on 13 March: 'I can confirm the information provided is correct and as the manufacturers have advised the modification is not due to a fault, this is not classed as the product being unfit for its purpose, as it can still be used with supervision. As such we are unable to offer a refund or replacement at this time.' One person I spoke to actually described them as "safe to use"! I will make a list ditch attempt and contact my credit card provider and see if I have any better luck with them.
  • :mad:I would just like to post this and firstly this is my very 1st time. About not point fantastic customer services, I say this sarcastically, registered my dyer in Nov 2015, engineer came out Feb 22nd, wow but could not make dryer safe cos modification would not go on my dryer, cos parts needed, customer services rang me next day saying parts no longer available and my case had been past up, up to where no one knows, I have rang every number available spoke with plenty of hot point staff, who are very nice but fob you off saying this department can't help, been given a number to ring but its a chemist in Wales.sent plenty emails which are ignored, all I want is my dryer making safe which they can not do so they should replace it with a brand new one. Would not touch any whirlpool product ever again, this company should be ashamed of its self.

Nothing wrong with Whirlpool, they just inherited a load of carp from hotpoint/indesit.
  • I received email from Hotpoint advising me that my machine would be modified in August 2016, I did not want to have to wait so checked my receipt to see when I had bought machine, it was April 2015, so telephoned Hotpoint several times with no success at getting a quicker resolution. Looked up their website and emailed customer services and asked could I have a replacement machine without having to pay £59. Couple of days later they phoned me and said new tumble dryer would be delivered within 4 weeks, free of charge, as my faulty machine was less than 12 months old.
I didnt even have to wait 4 weeks, they phoned again the following week and the new machine was delivered the next day. The delivery driver even took away the old machine for me too!

Just wondering why some people are being offered replacements for £59? They quoted £99 for my replacement.

    Mine was free.

    Hello
I have a dryer which is listed as faulty
I chose the exchange route and paid £59
Within 7 days it was delivered and fitted
The fitter said the 'new' dryer was faulty since it began to smoke as soon as he switched on
He uninstalled it and refitted my old dryer
I claimed and received my £59
I am now waiting a response from Hotpoint
    That was 2 weeks ago
In the meantime I have ordered an AEG dryer which is being delivered in 6 days time
    Better save than sorry
    Hotpoint aught to be ashamed

So how can we be sure the replacement dryer is not another rubbish machine from the same source since they're all made the same?
The truth is we can't so a refund is what is really safest.

I've only had mine since july 2015 so it's still under guarantee.
How can they think that a machine that's always ie since manufacture been a fire risk, does not qualify as being "unfit for purpose"

    Someone please explain !

Any electrical appliance carries a fire risk.

What you mean is that the issue with these machines increased the existing fire risk.
You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride
  • I have read it that they are replacing dryers with modified models that have been given back when replacement as been bought. Check if it as a green dot sticker on it. Or google it there is a story on there where it set on fire.
