No Buying Unnecessary Toiletries March 2016

Eyebright - stay strong, highlighters take an age to uu and if you love them you probably have loads.
I have a uu
Elemis Pro Radiance Illuminating Flash Balm 15ml - I really like this as a combined moisturiser/primer and it smells amazing. I have replaced it with another 15ml tube.Debt Free and now a saver, conscious consumer, low waste lifestyler
Fashion on the Ration 28/660 -
I have another UU : John Freda Frizz Ease shampoo. HG product. Need to buy a new one as I only have a clarifying shampoo left now. Must look for deals.Back for the No Buying Toiletries challenge. I pledge to only buy when I run out of a product that is not already in my stash no matter what wonderful emails land in in my Inbox or threads I read on MSE re: glitches!

I need to thin down the stash- will I ever use it or can it be used by some one else. Can it be repurposed. Sometimes you have to accept that you made a mistake and there is no chance that it will be used. In this case it needs to be decluttered.
So, one UU to report:
25. L'Occitane Shea Ultra Riche Face Cream. Got in the advent calendar. WNBA. Far too thick for me even when my skin is dry. Used up on my hands.
And my GAs:
5. MUA Amour Palette. Got this in a Pink Parcel. It's ok but I have similar colours in better formulas.
6. Make up Revolution Beach and Surf palette. I pulled this out to use this week as it's quite springy, colour wise. But I really haven't enjoyed using it at all so it's going.
7-10. 4x single eyeshadows. One each from Rimmel, Wild about Beauty, No7 and Lily Lolo.
Also TA a MUR lipstick that was part of a free gift. Hated the feel of it and it smells horrible.
Repurposed some Body Shop body mists as room sprays - the Shea and the Brazil nut ones. I love them both but just not on me so I'm using them when I make my bed every day.
I think I'm just trying to be a bit more realistic. Having spent money on something isn't a reason to keep it if it's not going to be used. The money's gone, I accept that. Things like eyeshadows can't be repurposed but I have friends and family who are happy to have them so why leave them in a drawer?0 -
I've just realised I've forgotten to update some UUS over the past couple of weeks. I've been rubbish at updating my list on my phone too...must do better!
* Nivea roll on travel size - WDBA. I like the scent although can't remember which one it was. I think it was lilac in colour
* L'Oreal Elnette hair spray -WMBA. I had this in a 75ml size for travelling and would definitely buy that again as it's handy and lasted ages but I wouldn't pay the full price for the big size when there's cheaper alternatives
* Smile toothpaste WMBA. This was a wee cheap Boots travel size toothpaste and I could notice the difference in taste between that and branded toothpaste yet I persevered everytime I went on an overnight and finally it's finished! Yay!
Replenished all from my stash so now onto a Vaseline roll on, Tresemme hair spray and Colgate toothpaste.#27 £2016 in 2016 = £763.61
#42 £2 Savers Club = £160
*Savers Club not included in overall 2016 savings until the tin is opened and my estimates have been confirmed later in the year.0 -
Rdone- it takes ages to finish once you hit pan. However, it does have a great feeling of accomplishment. It is a bit frustrating how you have to swirl brushes at odd angles to finish it up.
Eyebright- I bring in the highlighters I already have and compare the products. Seriously, I swatch the new and the old one I have and compare them in the department store. If they are really similar I feel happy in resisting. The Elizabeth Arden Summer Escape Color Collection Cheek Highlighter Stick was crazily similar to benefit watt's up! cream highlighter when compared side by side. This approach only works as I have a huge collection of make-up I carry with me all the time.
Deleted_User- my mistaken purchase will be someone else’s treat. I remember when I was younger getting a “new” eye shadow from glamorous relative was brilliant. “ If I can’t use give it away” will be my motto especially for clothes.0 -
Hi all!
It never rains but it pours! More UUs:
1 x Corsodyl Daily
1 x Creighton's Perfectly Blonde Conditioner
1 x Sensodyne Pronamel toothpaste.
1 x S&G Orangeasy shower gel
All 3/4 are holy grail products (although I could do with finding a better conditioner now - my hair seems to have changed its mind yet *again* *(insert much-missed rolly-eyed smiley here*). The other two dental products are HG products that I need to stock up on, though. I'd better get (cheap) sourcing....
Not sure about the S&G shower gel, though. I bought the set inc. the eau de toilette in the Boots sale last year. I quite like citrus fragrances so I thought I might like it. It does smell orangey, but it's undercut with quite a masculine base note so it smells quite androgynous: guys could easily use it as well. I think I would prefer it just to smell of oranges. WNBA.Please call me 'Pickle'

Not doing brilliantly on March's PP, here is an update:
1. No 7 Excite lipstick - just a tiny bit left
2. Nivea Facial Wash - still chugging on with this - the bottle is not see through so I have no idea how much is left. Seems to be endless!
[STRIKE]3. La Roche Posay matte facial moisturier[/STRIKE] Neither matte nor moisturising
4. Rose body lotion from Boots - should be gone by end of the month
5. Herbal Essences sulphate free shampoo - should be gone by EOM
[STRIKE]6. Soap & Glory Handcream[/STRIKE]
I like the 7 by Summer idea - will look out some items and put a list together. I have been panning for a couple of years so I am also at the stage of most things being full size and therefore hard work

Has anyone seen the new Urban Decay highlighters? I want one so badly! Shame I already have way too many highlighters, it's a product I can never resist. Love a good highlight! Shall we take bets on how long it takes for me to cave in and get one????
:o:eek:
Have seen them but highlighters are not really my thing! They are the products that I am trying to target though and am diligently adding the Seventeen liquid highlighter to my primer every day. As well as this I have a bottle of Benefit Sun Beam, Bobbi Brown Shimmer Brick, Laura Geller powder highlighter and new UD Gwen Stefani Angel highlighter to UU.
I suppose it depends what you are looking for in a highlighter. For me (a young 47) I just want a subtle healthy glow and something that won't define the fine lines any more than they need! Do you feel you have not found the right one yet?Deleted_User wrote: »Absolutely agree with this. I have changed my approach a little bit. I've been through all my single eyeshadows and swatched them all. If there are two similar ones, I've kept the one with the best formula and GA the other. Also GA some palettes. TA a lipstick I'll never use. Part of me feels guilty for throwing/giving away things that I have barely used but then, I also feel guilty if they're sitting in the drawer. From what I've gone through so far, I've got a few concealers, palettes and mascaras that I'm undecided on. I'm keeping them on my dressing table to try over the next few days then I'll decided whether to keep or GA/TA.

Loving your philosophy Deleted_User. What is the use of having products lying around untouched and unused. I'm now a firm believer of treating everything as if it's a considered purchase and doing research before spending any money on something that is going to sit in a drawer.Back for the No Buying Toiletries challenge. Loving this approach too. xcatherine/kate wrote: »Not doing brilliantly on March's PP, here is an update:

It's true that it's harder work to use up the full sizes but at least they are being consciously used.
Has anyone tried JackWills Hope Cove hand cream. I have a tube that was donated to me by Emma (ok, I confess that I rescued it from the bin!) and it's weird. It doesn't smell as if it's gone off but getting the amount of dosage right is an art form! Put on too little and my hands are still dry. Put on too much and it feels like it is exfoliating my skin with tonnes of dry skin flaking off (I know TMI). Have been trying to UU on MrM's feet but he's not too chuffed by this effect either!
Also, I've had a problem already with the pump on the 1L bottle of Australian Body Care shower wash in that it has stopped pumping. Luckily, I've got two bottles so have swapped the pumps but if that one breaks as well I won't be chuffed at having to return them to QVC given the postage costs.
Anyway, better go as it's effectively Friday. Have a good day everyone.Back for the No Buying Toiletries challenge. I pledge to only buy when I run out of a product that is not already in my stash no matter what wonderful emails land in in my Inbox or threads I read on MSE re: glitches!

The Benefit powders to take an age to UU and I've got 6 of them (it was a christmas set) including hoola which I use a tiny bit of so I think it's safe to say I won't need to buy a powder for the rest of my life!
My 7 by summer list is:
Benefit long wear powder shadow in call my buff (pan)
Benefit long wear powder shadow in kiss me, I'm tipsy
Benefit long wear powder shadow thanks a latte (pan)
Benefit long wear powder shadow in gilt-y pleasure (pan)
Paul Smith Sunshine (won't UU but want to remember to wear it every day)
Tony & Guy Sea Salt Spray
Any face mask that I buy (I'm terrible at buying and then leaving them sit in the fridge!)
My list is slightly unconventional but I find this is what works best for me. I feel guilty if I don't use them if they're on a list here so I guess whatever works eh!
Hope everyone has a lovely long weekend, we're off to Vienna and Bratislava so I'm sure I'll be reporting some mini UUs. xMy debt free diary
