    Up North is above Perth.
  • As far as the media & politicians are concerned, anything outside
London is the back of beyond.....only to be paid lip service/ patronised when it suits them.

When Southerners say they think the north starts at the top of the m25 i realise that must be because they are too stupid to understand the concept of a midlands area !!
We are not stupid, we just enjoy winding those not blessed with our advantages up!

(And of course, for me it's The River, not the M25.)

I'm originally from Newcastle, now living in Leicestershire. We're in the Midlands here, I would class North as starting around Sheffield. South to me begins, if I'm following the train route, somewhere around Bedford although it confuses me when my rugby team, Nottingham play the Bedford rugby team and its referred to as 'the East Midlands derby' I didn't think Bedford was in the East Midlands :D I class our nearest thing to a derby as playing Moseley- ie Birmingham :rotfl:

If you call paying a fortune for a pokey flat compared to the property prices we outside the S.E enjoy an advantage, be my guest ... I'd call it pretty stupid myself :rotfl:

The North begins with Cheshire to me.

The parts just above Birmingham are in the Midlands.

I think the Italians have similar arguments about where the south starts. If you live in Milan, it starts at Florence. If you live in Florence, it starts at Rome, if you live in Rome it starts at the first motorway services south of Rome. Or something like that.
Let's settle this like gentlemen: armed with heavy sticks
On a rotating plate, with spikes like Flash Gordon
And you're Peter Duncan; I gave you fair warning

What about if you're at the North Pole? Does South 'become' North and therefore everywhere?

Surely if you're at the North Pole everywhere else is south?

When my daughter moved to Nottingham someone told her that the River Trent was the dividing line between 'the north' and 'the south'

To me, Nottingham is in the midlands.
