    Properly? How rude.

So who speaks 'properly' then? You I suppose?! :rotfl:
I suspect it was intended as a joke. We still tease one of my siblings because they refer to 'dooks' not 'ducks', having been brainwashed by living oop north for too long.

I went to university in Durham. We were learning Hebrew. Our lecturer, in cut glass RP, was trying to describe the sound made by one of the vowel symbols. "The best way I can describe it, is when my wife forgets herself and talks about catching the 'boos' instead of the 'bus'." The Geordie lass sitting next to me nearly had an apoplectic fit. She just couldn't say 'bus' at all!

  • Growing up in Devon I felt anything north of Bristol was North. Now I'm above London I feel like North is Birmingham and above.
Could you do with a Money Makeover?

They can't say 'cat' (properly) either!

One of my lecturers oop North used to ask me to say the word, when he wanted an example of how to say æ phonetically.

  • I wondered how long it would take for Watford to get mentioned. It is weird how Watford Gap is actually nowhere near Watford!
It is very close to the village of Watford, Northamptonshire. It's a good 55 miles from Watford, Hertfordshire though.

The ancient Roman road Watling Street passes through Watford, Northamptonshire, and it is only a few miles away from Watford, Hertfordshire

  • The north begins just a foot south of my house!

North, and proud. Once heard Torquay fans call Exeter fans Northen!
  • Anywhere north of the Midlands is north for me.

  • Anything north of Crawley is the North of England to me.

I once went up north to visit London....strange place full of people with weird northern accents and odd habits. Some nice things to see and do up-north but I wouldn't want to live there.

Fo me I'd say where the M6 toll ends, so around Canmock but that's really from me mentally breaking up the journey from where IVe driven to Scotlsnd (next section being the North and the Lakes, then into Scotlaand) coming back the other way, the Midlands is like being in the start of the home run mentally - home being the Home Counties)
