    Basically, which has now become an over used filler word. (Nigel Barden, the chef on the Radio2 drive time show on a Thursday evening, is a great example of this. I grit my teeth all the way home listening to him). I consciously try to never say basically.

    Prolly for probably
    Revert back
    Pre-prepare
    Hollibobs for holidays
    Chrimbo for Christmas
    Celebrity for anyone in the public eye, however remotely famous or infamous

    And defiantly which crops up in place of definitely in text/type rather than the spoken phrase.

    Arrrrrgh!
    Argh! Yes indeed. The one that REALLY gets me is "pacific" for "specific".

    I hate 'my' used for something someone likes, rather than something that is actually theirs. As in "my programme's on at 8pm" or similar.

    Oh, heck, yes! People going around houses on these programmes, saying 'I've got my big kitchen or garden or ....' . :cool:

    Havent read it all but my annoyances are,,

    Brought= bought

    literally
    basically
    Starting sentences with "so"

    When ordering for example, in a restaurant.."Can i get..."

    Amazeballs

    Swear down..usually used by degenerates

    On the brought bought thing, amazingly i saw the very same error on a corporate website this morning.
    Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..
  • The thing that really gets my back up is people using double negatives-

    'I haven't got none'
    'I haven't done nothing'
    'That attitude won't get you nowhere'
    'I don't have no time for this'

    My OH uses them all the time and they drive me crazy!

    I pull my housemate up on those all the time infuriates me!

    I accidently said "I haven't got a scooby" (Scooby Do - Clue) to my nan the other day she went mad so I'll avoided using that from now on.

    Urgh "swear down" I loath I live in Essex and work in TOWIEville (Brentwood) and all I hear is the stupid words those so called "celbs" use (or as I call them plebs) it drives me mad :mad:

    JUST SPEAK NORMALLY !!!!!!!! :mad::mad::mad::eek:

    Oh yes - and people who say "I'm confused-dot-com". The more I think about this thread, the more I realise how many of these things annoy me!

  • "current climate" when referring to the economy. Please...no!! It has nothing to do with temperature! So maddening. I second "Brexit" too. Almost as bad as "Grexit" when Greece were having issues !

    I've never, ever heard anyone, even the daftest pupil, confuse 'brought' and 'bought'.

    Is it a regional thing?
