My wife gets wound up by "train station" instead of "railway station". That might be a regional thing because in my Northern boyhood it was just t'station. (Trains and buses left from the same station so no-one needed to distinguish).

What does your wife call a place where buses depart from?

When did people start calling charity shops "chazzas"? I've only ever read it on MSE where a couple of people use it.

I have never heard anyone call a charity shop a chazza shop. Ever.

    What is swear down?

I have started to say that. :rotfl: I am annoying mySELF with it, and I don't know what it means or why I say it!

Maybe it means down on the bible or swear on my life or sumfink. (Sorry, cudnt resist.) :p
I'm from the North and it's not regional.

Train station sounds infantile to me. It's a station on the railway, so a railway station, or just "station" for short.

    .

Why wouldn't you say train station? And how is it 'infantile?'

It's a station where trains come to/leave from. So it's a train station.

As Georgie said, we call the station where the buses come to a 'bus station,' so it seems natural/normal to say train station, for the station where trains come to.

As I said how and why is it infantile? It's not like we're saying choo choo station. :rotfl:

I pull my housemate up on those all the time infuriates me!

I accidently said "I haven't got a scooby" (Scooby Do - Clue) to my nan the other day she went mad so I'll avoided using that from now on.

Urgh "swear down" I loath I live in Essex and work in TOWIEville (Brentwood) and all I hear is the stupid words those so called "celbs" use (or as I call them plebs) it drives me mad

    JUST SPEAK NORMALLY !!!!!!!! :mad::mad::mad::eek:

Hahaha,,i am aware of TOWIE but could not possibly bring myself to watch it. However a couple of days ago on morning TV, there was a very useful tutorial on the use of the popular Essex phrase.."Shut Up " and how it can be used to convey different messages .

Resistance is futile, the march of the underclass in all its guises continues apace. We are the Dinosaurs.
Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..

Its use is currently de rigeur in Northern Town chav culture. You will hear it a lot in places like Manchester and Salford. Where these phrases come from ,no one knows but they spread like wildfire in the underclass because if you dont imitate then you dont belong.

In Manchester the underclass squawk with a whining nasal sing songy sounding emission and each emission must contain some key phrases

"Back in the day" for me as well. I just want to say, when? Please be specific.
People who order an expresso in a coffee shop. There is no X people.
This one makes me fume "I seen a lovely bag, or I seen that on the news" You know who I am talking about, almost everyone in Northern Ireland!!! On the plus side I do love the overuse of the word wee here. Will I put that in a wee bag for you? That's your wee receipt! I always think it sounds friendly!!

Yes there are many things that are peculiarly Irish and especially in Northern ireland due to the mix of Scots/ Irish.

Have a look at the Norn Iron Haunbook and you will see countless examples ! Great fun..
