Why does every dead celebrity or actor become 'The late, great...........'?

And are they really all "icons"?

Probably for the same reason every baby is automatically "adorable":rotfl:. Well - some are and some are obviously going to be plug-ugly when they grow up.

We've had our share of dead celebrities being "bigged-up" recently though and I must admit that, as soon as I read of David Bowie having gone bankrupt once - I compared that to how much money he had left in his Will and wondered if he ever paid the people/firms back once he had made "loadsa money" and had my cynical suspicions he probably hadn't done so (despite clearly having the opportunity to do so from all that money).

I don't mind "going forward" and I use it in work emails, but I find "back in the day" very irritating and I switch off when someone uses it.

All the reports I've read said "close to bankruptcy" or "facing bankruptcy" rather than actually going bankrupt.

    I hate 'I don't do ........', as in 'I don't do zoos/ bath bombs/ McDonald's ' for anything the person dislikes. Bit of a superior tone.

Not a fan of 'not a fan of' either. :)

(Pity they are mangled by this autocorrect!)

I use "not a fan of" quite a bit, otherwise I sound even more dogmatic than I do already.:o

I hate 'my' used for something someone likes, rather than something that is actually theirs. As in "my programme's on at 8pm" or similar.

Where has it come from? The only time I hear it used is on those American TV programmes that I watch when I'm brain dead and can't be bothered to look for anything better. The Las Vegas pawn broker one is one example.

"At the end of the day, it..." used in any situation not relating to the evening hours.

And conversations or sentences that begin with "So..."
